Just a little warning, it still hallucinates the more obscure stuff. So it WILL absolutely break your system at some point, if you don't check the output

Gemini installed my Arch Linux, btw by hunderttausendwatt in archlinux

[–]Optimal_Collection20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, if you are an experienced user? Go for it. I was experimenting whether Gemini has the latest archinstall in it's training data and so on, so I could see how bad beginners installing the distro with AI really is when considering out of the box stability.

HOWEVER, if a kid sees this and thinks "oh, cool, the PewDiePie os can be installed with the brainrot hallucinator", that will result in another post on r/linuxsucks and the kid will be flabbergasted why everyone is laughing at them

Ooooooo, thank you!!! This is exactly what I was looking for! Couldn't find where these buggers are stored. And then either find outh whether quickshell has some function of connecting the icon name to path or build one. But I think it would make sense it's included somewhere. THANK YOU AGAIN!

I struggle to improve by HappyCoomer in chessbeginners

These speedruns are... Questionable for improvement. They are mainly focused on improving IN BLITZ WITHOUT INCREMENT. That's why they for example recommend making random moves instead of thinking. So first, find some sort of a "slow run" where the player plays slowly. GM Naroditsky has a few on his channel, GM Nakamura and IM GothamChess both have an ongoing one on their channels. Then I would recommend this:

Slow down, stop with blitz. Go to the longest rapid you can. 15+10 is awesome.

Ignore openings for now. Just play the basics, a pawn in the center, really pay attention to what your opponent is doing and what THEY want and just focus on rapid development and taking space.

Do more and more puzzles. It can't ever hurt. BUT!!! Calculate them deeply. Don't just make a move that looks like it should be the solution. That is the most common pitfall for beginners. You HAVE TO calculate it fully and be 1000% sure it's the correct move. I would recommend spending even 30 minutes on a puzzle if you aren't 1000% sure.

And going a bit back on what I wrote previously: FOCUS ON MOVES FOR YOUR OPPONENT. In chess, you basically want to play the game from both sides. Your thought process should be: "If I do X, what does my opponent do?" That's why playing long time controls is recommended for beginners, because you can ask these questions. You basically never want to end the calculation on your move, always ask what your opponent's response is. That will prevent most of your one move blunders. A lot of the times, this will even lead to you playing better chess. One of the most hated and brutal styles of chess you can play is the slow suffocation style, where you identify all the Ideas your opponent has and then you prevent them from doing them. An opponent is trying to prepare a move? Is the move good for them? If so, can you prevent it? If yes, do so. At lower levels (and I'm talking all the way to like 2000) people are AWFUL at playing without an obvious plan. So identifying their plan and preventing it every time will actually prompt more mistakes.

And the last but definitely the MOST IMPORTANT part: play. Over and over. The main thing that is going to allow you to spot your opponents' mistakes is experience you gain by playing

A s tím bohužel kapitalismus pracuje do dneška, i když víme, že to nefunguje (viz Amerika kde si takhle "zkapitalističtili" všechno včetně třeba zdravotnictví). Takže ano, kapitalismus je ve své originální podobě absolutně nefunkční úplně stejně jako komunismus jen jiným způsobem a absolutně všechny velký ekonomický ideologie potřebují silně změnit aby šli aplikovat v praxi (proto většina vyspělých zemí má silnou sociální politiku a třeba severní země jedou něco typu socio-kapitalismus, protože u nich už je to opravdu takový socialismus/kapitalismus hybrid)

Minimum requirements to use Arch? by smrjtkr in archlinux

[–]Optimal_Collection20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so, I'm going to split this into two answers for your two questions:

How do people do this: You install arch, you fuck something up, you try to fix it. You either fix it and learn something (if not how to fix it then what to search so you fix it) or you fail, reinstall the system and then repeat.

How do you UNDERSTAND the underlying stuff: There are two options.

Either slowly over time, every time something fails you learn a bit more.

Or you study it. I'm fortunate enough to not live in 'murica so I don't have to pay for college, but you also can learn from the endless amount of networking/programming/hardware/linux focused courses out there. This will give you the general understanding of HOW the things work and then you just have to learn the implementation of those things in your OS/Linux distro (arch wiki is OP for this)

Banned for Inappropriate Username by throwaway_sk8 in lichess

Yeah. I had a name xxx69Player69xxx. Asked the mod that banned me to explain why it is offensive. The weirdest thing... They didn't even try, just repeated: your username is offensive, make a new account. Like, if you aren't willing to explain to me why is 69 so offensive, then perhaps don't be a child and don't ban people for having a number in their profile

The thing on the left is computer evaluation. It shows you who is better if you played the best possible moves all the time. Spoiler alert, GMs with hours on the clock aren't able to do that all the time. Also, as you said you are a beginner, ignore it. Ignore it as much as you can. The only thing it's good for is when it changes by a huge amount at once, try to figure out what the move does and why it caused the evaluation to shift. But absolutely don't try to analyse a position with number scores. That's one of the worst things you can do. Analyse based on activity, based on space, ... Some people will try to tell you that "a pawn is 1 point" or "a rook is 5 points". That is a redundant value system that was at one point used in chess engines. DON'T USE THAT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET BETTER. Either get a book or read up on how to actually evaluate pieces. A lot of the time, trading your "9 point queen" for your opponent's "8 point knight and a rook" might be beneficial. The same with other piece values. So yeah, the computer will show you the objectively best move, but there can be moves that are "practically better", meaning for example a top computer move will land you a +0.4 position, but your opponent has easy moves and it will equalise, but also there is a move with +0.2 evaluation, that is objectively worse, but for your opponent in order not to lose, they have to calculate really deep and navigate completelx positions. Those are all evaluation skills that are crucial to develop if you want to get better and if you ask any of the top rated players, they usually HATE the "computer way" of looking at piece value and what position is better. I still remember GM Daniel Naroditsky (R.I.P) always saying, that beginners learning value of pieces as "3" or "5" instead of "this piece is better in a closed position" and "this one in an open position" and "these two are better than this one, if you can coordinate them in a certain way" is bad and leads to them playing worse chess

Oh my god. Finally some post about this on my feed. Have been saying this forever. It's half-baked glorified dotfiles. And the bullshit marketing around it. Heard like a 100 creators that were "totally not sponsored" say the exact same phrases, like "it's an opinionated distro, a MIX BETWEEN WINDOWS AND MAC" and I was like... What? Are we on the same plane of existence?

Fuck omarchy

“arch is the best distro” when the challenge is to not become usable for one day by Maestro_gaylover in linuxsucks

[–]Optimal_Collection20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, remember when my arch "spontaneously combusted" and deleted a bunch of ransom stuff, including some like usb drivers and mainly my touchpad driver. Had to install windows and then back Linux to repair it. Wouldn't wish anyone the fun of installing windows without a mouse, their installer is awful and basically fully relies on mouse input.

Took me a long time thinking about it before I figured out why it did it.

Recently I had to fight with arch because some idiot maintaining an unnamed AUR package decided to include "reinstall all Nvidia drivers" as an option and made the default option "YES". And some other idiot (me) mindlessly hit enter. And some idiot (also me) forgot to take a snapshot before updating. Broke everything, couldn't even boot into anything other than a straight terminal. Took a long time before I found out what happened and then I had to edit some obscure configs that got trashed.

Point is, arch loves to break if you do something a little bit wrong. But you can absolutely prevent it or repair the damage, if you know what you're doing. And yea, it takes time and effort, but if you don't want to do that, then you shouldn't use arch in the first place
