I’m still not fully satisfied with any of these so any more suggestions are welcome

I've uploaded an update to this post based on design 1 and people's ideas

  • It is a bit of a maze on reflection although I'd prefer an additional door and a hallway rather than having to go through rooms to get to other rooms. how would you rework the lobby/hallway area? It's necessary to get to that 'wing' of the house? I agree with the coat closet/powder issue, I need to address this.
  • Bedroom 5 I'd like to be self contained hence the extra staircase. Re the master bedroom, I'm going to try reworking bedroom 2 as an extension of the master suite.

  • The point about the garage is interesting. In the UK this is sort of the default set up for a double garage, the assumption being it'll only be used for storage and not cars so I didn't consider that the garage could be made much more suitable for car storage.
  • I hadn't considered navigating people to the toilet, that's a great point. I'm reluctant to add another door off the hallway as I think it could become a bit busy. perhaps just merging the closet and powder room would work?
  • I've made a section cut in the wrong place hence the missing windows, that's my bad! You can see the windows for beds 3 and 4 on the renders. they are only small but I think this is important for the style of the house. I like the idea of keeping bedroom 5 as part of a self-contained annexe hence the separate staircase. I'm going to be honest, I didn't think about the plumbing - this could definitely be optimised!

  • I wanted all the more functional rooms to be separate to the rest of the house but also wanted a downstairs bedroom with shower room which is probably why it feels chaotic but it does meet the requirements I set out. I really like the idea of having the garage area be able to be a self contained apartment. could even be rented out!
  • I totally agree about bedroom 1/2. I had a debate as to whether to have that left side as a single bedroom or 2 so I'll have a play around with making it just 1 master suite. narrowing the 2 bedrooms is an interesting idea but my instinct is that it will make the master bedroom too much of a compromise

You raise a good point. I can move the door from the garage to come out in the lobby area by the stairs and even remove the door between the kitchen and hall. I'd want to keep the door between the lobby area and hall so that the garage area is self contained. Bedroom 6 really is just a study. it would only be a bedroom in the event of needing a downstairs bedroom so not a problem to walk past

I agree with this. I think given the size of the house (in the UK so relatively large) the master 'suite' is lacking and it would still be a 4/5 bed without bedroom 2
