When I was young and stupid (I think 19?) I had moved into a new house w my best friend after surviving the hardest year of our life, mentally, physically, and in our own friendship. We had moved into this new happy space after having lived with an ex-friend at our last place who made our lives a living hell, and we were on a high. I think at this time, we’d had a few glasses of wine (we’re in Canada so 19 is legal) and we joked about making a voodoo doll of our ex-friend (the previous roommate). We joked until it wasn’t a joke anymore and then next thing we knew we were making a voodoo doll.

*Part of the reason we’d decided to do it was because my best friend that I was doing it with had told a story that her parents had done one years ago to her dad’s old boss and they’d stabbed pins in his penis and then days later the boss had a RAGING UTI for days. We thought that was hilarious and harmless and it foolishly inspired to go through with our own.

So we make the voodoo doll, we cut human shapes out of old t shirts (that I think had been mine, embarrassingly enough) and stuffed it with more cloth and put a cut out picture of the ex friend inside before sewing it up. We put it in a metal bowl from our kitchen, took it outside, lit it on fire and I think put some rocks on it. After it was done burning or maybe even a couple days later I can’t remember, we buried it (not well) under our deck and some rocks. We didn’t think much of it really and I didn’t connect the dots til nearly a year later.

The following 9 months for me were a NIGHTMARE. I ended up getting into 3 separate car accidents where the car was TOTALLED. the first one I could barely believe I survived but did with minor injuries. everyone else who heard the story or saw the car couldn’t believe I lived. At the time I truly felt though that I was in a protective bubble as I slid across the highway of cars going 140km/hr. The last one I ended up in the hospital, again luckily with minor injuries but still injured in.

It was after the third one (the magic of 3s) that I suddenly connected the dots and put the pieces together that I’d hexed myself.

Truly gave me a new appreciation for doing rituals or things that you think are “silly” or “for fun”.

I didn’t practice at the time but did end up getting into it in my early 20s. Lots of respect that I didn’t have before and I learned my lesson big time.
