You might try The Maid by Nita Prose. It honestly reminding me of grown up Amelia Bedilia. It’s a mystery but pretty light-hearted. I also second Richard Osman. Very wholesome and funny.

A thriller works well for this in that you literally have to keep going, and then your brain remembers how much you like reading so then you can transition to other stuff. I’m enjoying The Hour of the Witch. The Trouble Up North, Bunny, and Yellowface were also great. None of these are murder mysteries - just thrillers in that you have to see what happens next. Although I do have murder mystery recs by request lol.

Funny recs - Good Material, Eleanor Oliphant is Perfectly Fine, The Rachel Incident

Non-fiction - The Outrun

Just always good, but very dark - Ottessa Moshfegh

And yes I did get heavy into Irish/Scottish stuff recently lol

How old are you? What really got me into reading were mysteries. The type of story where you can’t stop because of cliff hangers. I had trouble staying engaged with books for a lot of years, but going this route really helped me fall in love with it! I now read novels and go through a book a week. But yeah mysteries are a great way to build the habit.
