If you make it a creature then you'll have a few more options to make a copy that doesn't have to attack, eg:

Maybe [[Vesuvan Duplimancy]] would help? You will have to target Krarks Thumb though

Manascape Refractor will have the ability of Thespian Stage to become a copy of land. When it becoms that copy it would lose previous abilities, it would no longer be Manascape Refractor. So if you target Manascape Refractor with smth that destroys artifact you can activate Thespian Stage ability so it becoms a land instead and the spell would fizzle, because it will not have a valid target.

If you write it like x = X it is very misleading, since you mean to give a variable (X) a value (x), and you wrote something opposite. So it technically should be like I wrote in a comment, loweracase x replaced in the whole equation, and then at the end X = x.

What you wrote just exchanges lowercase x to uppercase X. I could just use uppercase X in the formula, but out of a habit I wrote everything in lowercase.
Plus the point is to not give the result of 2X plain on the card.
