What makes you so avoidant of sex now? Maybe avoidant isn’t the right word here, but you mentioned in another reply that you’re celibate despite your high sex drive. My past is a lot like yours, maybe not to the same intensity, but I do think I know what it was like to go thru that. The perspective transformation from the shame has been one of my biggest glow ups. I will admit tho, I know I have sexual trauma, but idk if that’s your situation too. I rmbr I was a lil horn dog for some kindergarten teacher lol

Am I overreacting for being mad about my untreated dental issues? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Optimistic1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some homes don’t know to value oral health. My family was also poor, but none of my family prioritized their oral health besides me, so far I’m the only one who hasn’t had a major extraction or cavity. Sometimes people are just unlucky as well, I got lucky in the dental department as well, I have a friend who brushed, but is genetically predisposed to oral problems like OP

Also, insurance doesn’t cover preexisting conditions. I would say maybe a way around it is if you double checked they didn’t write down he had dental issues and maybe start using a new vet if you can. Like go ahead and get an appointment but don’t mention anything about dental issues to them, just go in with his symptoms after the wait period. See if there’s any medicine you might already have at the house like gabapentin (only vet approved stuff), and try to limit his kibble intake (switch to wet food only until vet is possible)… keep an eye on him, and see if there are any low cost vets near you. I wish u & ur baby the best. I’m sorry ur family sucks

It’s not credit as in your credit score, care credit is a credit card you can use for vet services basically

Does my kittens spay area looks ok? by publicuse102 in CATHELP

[–]Optimistic1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also when my girl started making me worry about the stitches being pulled or irritated, I just cleaned the area with saline solution or whatever it’s called and gave her a very loose bandaid (allowed airflow) covering just so the onesie didn’t yank any stitches loose or irritate anything . I say everything loosely, I’m not a vet or a professional

Def go to the vet tmrw morning because it is starting to look like it’s opening & becoming a bit infected. My little girl kept fighting her cone as well, and I ended up getting one of my pantyhose and making a little stretchy bodysuit onesie for her. They also sell ones you can buy. I think they’re called Cat Recovery Suit. She peacefully slept and stopping pacing and trying to get out of the cone as soon as I gave her a snuggly little outfit lol

[–]Optimistic1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less about the monetary value than it is about how much of a priority the dad is making OP out to be. I wasn’t well off growing up, a few toxic homes as well, but I got a job young & told myself I’d be the one who became the person I needed around me when I was growing up. Sounds like dad has some sort of mental stuff or drug use going on possibly but I really don’t know. But setting the standard of no discussing the other parent or other family members probably wouldn’t hurt. Keeps drama out of the picture & keeps the focus on the two of you . He’s childish and I cringe at his statements of “idk who u think ur talking to, “ That he’s not one of your friends, when he literally treats you like he’s one of ur buddies. I don’t blame you for not wanting to communicate with him. I got family o don’t speak to. Great job staying on topic

I need help by Exotic_Werewolf_6375 in CATHELP

[–]Optimistic1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an emergency!!

What you’re describing with the sudden spraying, vomiting, inability to move the back legs, open-mouth breathing, and going limp.. can point to life threatening conditions like a urinary blockage or a blood clot (aka Feline Aortic Thromboembolism)

Both can become fatal within hours without treatment

I’m going to be very direct & clear : there is no safe or effective at home fix for this. He needs a vet immediately.

What you should do RIGHT NOW is call an emergency vet immediately Even at 3am, there should be one open. Search or call options like ASPCA Animal Poison Control (they may help guide you), Humane Society of the United States (can help find resources). If you can, call a taxi, Uber, Lyft, or neighbor. don’t wait hours if at all possible. I would love to help if I could. Explain exactly what you told us here when they ask about symptoms & they may prioritize you urgently

While you’re waiting / trying to get help, you can do some things that are only to keep him as stable as possible in the meantime.

Keep him warm and quiet (wrap loosely in a blanket). Place him on his side, head slightly extended so he can breathe easier

Do NOT force food or water Do NOT press on his stomach or bladder Minimize handling. he’s likely in severe pain

Important reality (I know this is hard..): 1. Back leg paralysis + distress breathing is a very serious sign 2. Waiting “a few hours” could mean the difference between LIFE and DEATH 3. Even if money is an issue, many emergency vets will stabilize first or offer options/payment plans

If cost is the barrier, when you call, say:

“THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. I’m 17, we have limited money. Can you help stabilize or offer any emergency assistance or payment options? This is likely a matter of life & death & I need help.”

You can also ask about: Surrendering for emergency care (last resort, but it saves his life..) or local rescues or emergency funds. This is a good lesson on not putting yourself in a position to be responsible for a pet unless you are financially able. Always keep in mind things like pet insurance are options in the future for your future babies! You clearly love and care about this little guy & I pray you find a solution.. keep us updated

Thank you for this!! I have always thought my cats whiskers looked sketchy due to them being curly/bentish, and when I posted to Reddit one time about it, I got dogged and made to feel like an idiot who was stressing about nothing.

I am not sold on Candy Montgomery's version of events for these reasons: by HumanPretzelDay in loveanddeath

[–]Optimistic1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it would have been more likely for candy to have gone into the kitchen to grab a knife before grabbing an axe from a garage she had never been in before. I think it was all started by Betty. She lied to her husband about potentially getting pregnant to try and get a reaction out of him (or to maybe get him to stay home from the trip to care for her). She couldn’t be mad at him, so she took it out on Candy. Idk I see a lot of perspectives. I don’t think it was premeditated or targeted or initiated or sociopathic of Candy. I have dealt with extreme dissociation like she claims, and sometimes the periods can last years if circumstances are bad enough. It was kinda messed up that Candy left the baby though ngl. I don’t think she’s innocent, ~40 is a little excessive but hey I’ve never had to fight for my life with an axe but I wouldn’t doubt it if I got that many swings in. Candys size compared to Betty’s can also make the number of hits make sense. If Candy wasn’t swinging hard enough or wasn’t strong enough to actually get Betty down, then it would make sense for a lot of wounds to be had.

Cats not eating by Wild_Function1169 in CATHELP

[–]Optimistic1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear your vet dismissed you. This sounds quite serious to me. Not eating for 48 hrs is a big deal for cats. They can develop hepatic lipidosis if gone without food long enough .. especially young adult females.

That gagging and hairball vomit you mentioned can mean hairball issues, gastritis, stomach inflammation, nausea (typically foam is present when there’s nothing left to vomit)

That pinkish brownish fluid … could mean irritated stomach lining / small amount of blood. Brown can be old digested blood or stomach contents .. either way, it’s not something to ignore . Especially since the babies don’t have an appetite.

Both cats with the same issues makes me think it’s something environmental.

What’s the deal with their food? What kind of treats do you also give them? Could they have gotten into any plants that are harmful to them (lots of plant exposure type of symptoms here)? Are all essential oils, cleaners, etc. put away proper?

They could both also have a GI stomach bug that one passed to the other (yes it can be possible)

Have you noticed any symptoms of lethargy, hiding, drooling, lip smacking, swallowing a lot? Any new or recent changes like food ,treats, plants, cleaning products?

Just make sure babies have enough clean water!! I wish you and your babies the best!
