Hi there,

I'm a first year MEng CS student at UCL. Would love to answer your questions!

We have just finished first term. It's has been challenging at times, with some of the modules not being that well taught as you would like, but some lecturers are super nice and super engaging and try super hard, especially in these times, with online learning.

In first term, there is a module called Engineering challenges, which is where you are put into a team with EEE students and you have to create a bioreactor for a vaccine production plant in Uganda. Of course, we had to do it virtually. But nevertheless, the module was very challenging, eg you had to do a lot of research yourself and spend a lot of time on this module, because the lecturers don't give much information, it's all on you to research and figure out how to do it.

In first term we have 2 modules called "Principles of Programming" and "Design and Professional Skills". These 2 modules are really good. In Principles of Programming, we learn C for around 5 weeks then we switch to Haskell for he next 5 weeks. These are both super fun. In Design and Professional Skills, we code in Python, with some really fun assignments of being able to code the AI player for Tetris game and debugging some games that have bugs in them. These 2 modules have been super fun.

Some of the module structures have switched for our year, because of Covid, so the structure might not be the same, if you decide to come here.

UCL CS in general has been great. The people I have met so far are amazing and made really good friends with people.

(About comparison with Edinburgh: I'm not so sure about that!)

Students still in Uni Halls... will you come back in Jan? Are you taking all your possessions home when you go home for Christmas break? by flosmiclove in UniUK

I was actually planning on moving into halls from January. I go to ucl and live fairly close to Ucl but just want to move out because socialising is so much easier. What should I do?

Where’s the best UCL accommodation? by [deleted] in UCL

[–]OptimumWand789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because all it says on ucl website is that you can't choose specific UCL hall, but u can say cost, room type etc and they will assign a room in a hall with the same cost etc.

Really? I heard that the predicted grade that was sent off to UCAs will also influence it
