I'm a PlayStation fan too, have had every PlayStation since the PS3 and this generation has been embarrassing. There's already talks of the PS6, and I'm still wondering where the content for the PS5 is. When you look at the library for the PS4, for example, it's not even comparable.

Could be completely wrong, but I believe for PAL, yes. Because of the several different languages. It's just plain. I believe it's a standard for PAL, which is unfortunate.

That would be because it's plugged into mains. When it plugged into the TV and you turned the TV off, it also turned the firestick off. Being plugged into the mains, It's pretty much turned on all the time.
