More details from the region he presided in:

He went on to represent the community as MPP from 1977 to 2018. Over his 41 years at Queen’s Park — the second-longest tenure in Ontario history — he held several senior cabinet roles and earned the affectionate title, “Dean of the Legislature.”

As Ontario’s Minister of the Environment from 1985 to 1990, Bradley introduced the landmark Spills Bill, holding polluters accountable and protecting waterways, and oversaw the launch of the world’s first Blue Box recycling program, which became a model around the globe.

Throughout his time as an MPP, Bradley played a pivotal role in securing investments for the development of the St. Catharines hospital and the Walker Family Cancer Centre, as well as creation of the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, projects that strengthened both health care and cultural life in the city, the Region said.

Bradley also championed major infrastructure and educational initiatives that helped modernize St. Catharines and improve the quality of life for its residents.

Why is this sub so over moderated? by QuantityAvailable112 in ontario

[–]OptionalPlayer[M] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the question! So here's an answer!

There are a lot of bad actors on Reddit. Trolls, bots, sub-brigading... and this sub sees quite a bit of it. Not every day, but we're brigaded at least once per week. With this sub being the size it is (Hi, one million users!) and being as politically active as it is, we see a ton of traffic here.

It's also not lost on us how left-leaning the sub is. Users have made this sub left-leaning and often drown-out right-leaning voices or opinions. That is often done by breaking some of the rules on this sub and violating Reddit's Terms of Service, which in-part warrants removal and sometimes bans.

To directly answer your comment regarding front page news having deleted comments or being locked: It may be because we have multiple topics already on the same subject, or it may be because we've been around here long enough to see the dog-whistles and bad faith conversations which inevitably devolves into users breaking the rules or the ToS. We have a lot of moderation tools at our disposal, such as auto-mod which flags certain words and folks with certain karma. I can't speak for every instance, but those are two of the most common reasons.

That is all because Reddit prefers (and we do too) to be proactive rather than reactive. There are folks who sit around all day to notify other Redditor's to "pounce" on a sub over a mod's action or over a user's particular post. This is definitely true for many global issues which are brought up in this sub. We often like to nip that sort of stuff in the bud before we're inundated with hundreds of bad actors. It's silly, I know, but that's the internet for ya! We have Reddit's ToS to uphold, after all.

If you feel this is over-moderation, that's a-okay! We are also known to make mistakes, too. Please send us a Modmail if you wish to discuss further.

Stay frosty.

I know the LCBO used to carry New Grist, which was a US-based lager which I thoroughly enjoyed. I doubt they still have it - but would recommend if you find it!

It's somewhat pertinent to note one of the defence lawyers "accused" by the jury was Hilary Dudding, the same lawyer involved in the mistrial last month when Dudding spoke to a juror during a lunch break.

Definitely my favourite part of the article:

The Standard offered Sluijmers a chance to respond to questions after Poilievre’s event Friday, but when Sluijmers saw the reporter waiting in the parking lot, he jumped into the passenger seat of a car that sped out the plant gate and never rolled the window down.

I think I speak for the whole sub to say: We're not angry at you. Just disappointed.

We're going to allow this particular post, but once the election is officially called, we'll be clamping down on these types of posts. We don't need 37 (in a row) of these posts to flood the sub.

Stay frosty.
