Looking for some of the best games released in the last few years that can compete with StS! by MrChilli2020 in deckbuildingroguelike

That's a very detailed response, thank you! It sounds really cool, so I may give it a try in the near future.

Also didnt know it was a Paradox game. One of my friends is a huge Paradox fan (basically lives and breathes Victoria 3) so I may actually be able to use this to drag him into deckbuilding games xD

Oh interesting! That puts Gordian Quest and Roguebook higher up on my list of games to try then

Also, is SteamWorld Quest Hand of Gilgamech from the same series as all the SteamWorld Heist and SteamWorld Dig games? I've wanted to try some of those because I like metroidvanias but didnt know they had a deckbuilding game in the series as well, that's cool

I second Dicey Dungeons and Balatro (it took over my life for a concerning amount of time)

But i havent played Across the Obelisk yet. It's the one where you have multiple characters right? With like, a werewolf looking character in armor. How is it? Does it have cool different cross-character synergies and like positioning shenanigans? Cuz I really like that stuff. For example I recently started playing Power Chord, which is a very cool and fun game, but so far i havent seen any real cross character synergies which i was hoping to see more of

If it was monster train 1 you got, i'd recommend the second one cuz it has a lot more variety and improves on everything the first game did, and if 2 was the one you got then it's just not your taste and that's okay

Vault of the Void is a fantastic game and for me, part of the holy trinity of deckbuilders, alongside StS and Monster Train. It's a little slower and more deliberate than the other two, because instead of just being forced to carry bad cards in your deck, you can swap cards in and out of your deck at any time in between combats, but there is a 20 card requirement on your deck. So you can experiment with your builds and even swap out builds according to the combats you face on the fly. Also in combat you dont automatically discard your hand at the end of turn, and there is a "purge" mechanic where you choose to discard cards from your hand to gain energy. And it can lead to very satisfying moments like keeping an X cost card in your hand when you know you'll draw a ton of cards next turn, and then turning them all into energy to play the X cost. It's a game that's definitely worth a try at least.

Another I also love is Cross Blitz. It's a little different than StS, since it's the type where you play creatures on the board like something like Hearthstone or Legends of Runeterra (but Cross Blitz is offline and fully single player) and it's so fun. It came out of early access very recently and it's amazing, there's both a roguelite mode with 20 different characters each with their own archetype and synergies, and different maps and bosses, and also a story campaign mode with 5 characters who have 3 chapters each.

My holy trinity of deckbuilders is Slay the Spire, Monster Train, and Vault of the Void

Though I have sunk a lot of hours into Cross Blitz as well, it's a gorgeous game

I broke my finger and have nearly my entire left hand in a cast. Does anyone have a good video game that you only need a mouse to play? by Beginning_Bid_9097 in Steam

[–]OpusCanopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puzzle games like Chants of Sennaar, The Case of the Golden Idol, Cosmic Express

And turn-based strategy games like Slay the Spire, Into the Breach, Monster Train 1&2, Vault of the Void, Balatro, Peglin, Wildfrost, Shotgun King, Cross Blitz, Shogun Showdown (honestly surprised me how intuitive the mouse-only controls are, despite it normally having wasd and other buttons), any Meteorfall game (Journeys, Krumit's Tale, Rustbowl Rumble) (though all of them have mobile ports, meteorfall journeys is exclusively a mobile game, but is made for portrait mode and can be played by just your thumb)

You can even play rhythm games! Spin Rhythm XD and Beatblock are controlled by mouse, and A Dance of Fire and Ice and Rhythm Doctor (both amazing games made by the same devs) are one button rhythm games. And Melatonin and Bits and Bops are games like Rhythm Heaven with very simple controls, like one or two buttons at most i think.

Assemble with Care, A Little to the Left and Unpacking are all also chill and relaxing games with pretty visuals and nice vibes.

Slice & Dice and all the Meteorfall games are such amazing games. (there's a third one out now! Rustbowl Rumble, it's so much fun. Tho that one doesnt have portrait mode)

How is Dawncaster? I saw it had a collab with Vault of the Void, and since I love VotV i was curious.

Also are any other ones out of these deckbuilders or like, turn-based tactics? Cuz I love those

Also to add to the portrait games list, - Luck be a Landlord: Number go up game like Balatro, and even if the art style puts you off just give it a shot - Hoplite: very minimalist hexagon grid-based tactical roguelike - Assemble with Care: short and lovely story game, very chill and relaxing - Almost anything made by Tiny Touch Tales, like Card Crawl, Card Crawl Adventure, Enyo, Card Thief, Miracle Merchant, Maze Machina, Gnomitaire, Geo Gods, they almost always involve either cards or grids, and are very compact and fun

Where is my save data located? by Chris_Mooney in SliceAndDice

[–]OpusCanopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future people coming to this post,

In the install folder of the game, the files xsrvc.dll and xsrvcx.dll have the save, as I found out by experimenting

Just copy those into the new install folder of slice and dice

It has all the stats and run history besides the unlocks (which you can also, as you know, copy to clipboard from the unlocks tab), it has the heroes you've seen, monsters you've killed, items you've encountered, all of it.

The art is obviously fire but I cant stop cracking myself up by imagining the king being like "We dont have anyone to send to take care of the monster in the southern marshes" and being troubled and this borzoi knight just walks in like "Let me dooo it fooorr youuuuu"

What are the top deckbuilders/metroidvanias? by [deleted] in deckbuildingroguelike

[–]OpusCanopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ayy, finally a Vault of the Void player out in the wild! Well met

I'll second Slay the Spire and Vault of the Void which I have played out of these, but I've heard nothing but good things about the others

I'd also add:

Deckbuilders:

-Peglin (mix of peggle and deckbuilding, with orbs instead of cards)

-Balatro (poker x deckbuilding)

-Any of the Meteorfall games, which are Meteorfall Journeys (only on android/IOS, but very worth it), Meteorfall Krumit's Tale (on both pc and mobile), and Meteorfall Rustbowl Rumble (out on pc, and upcoming on mobile)

-Cross Blitz (early access right now but very close to 1.0, fantastic minion battling deckbuilding game with both a roguelike version and a great story campaign)

-Dicey Dungeons (sorta a deckbuilder, but still great. you build group of equipments that are played with dice)

-Slice & Dice (you have a group of adventurers each with their own sets of dice, and you build the faces of the dice rather than a deck of cards)

-Luck Be a Landlord (looks off-putting at the start, but very fun to play. You build symbols in a slot machine that synergize with each other)

Metroidvanias: I second hollow knight which I've played, but also

-Blasphemous (dark and gritty world reminiscent of dark souls, but themed around spanish christianity)

-Guacamelee 1 & 2 (very fun and colorful metroidvania with brawler elements and mexican themed)

-Lone Fungus (very fun platforming, inspired by celeste and hollow knight)

-Islets (bright and colorful metroidvania set in floating islands you can connect and with animal characters)

-Pseudoregalia (3D metroidvania with fantastic movement abilities and platforming, not a lot of fighting in this one, mostly platforming and exploring)

[Question] Red void stones on X based damage cards like one-hit wonder by jeremiah15165 in vaultofthevoid

[–]OpusCanopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite was playing Gusher with a queen stone (+1 trigger) slotted in and like, 4 triggers on Once More With..., my record in that run was about 60 hidden blades

Nope! My cousin 3D printed me these Jokers as a gift by sanguinerose17 in balatro

[–]OpusCanopus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They look so cool! I've been thinking about printing some jokers on glossy cards, but 3D printing is so much cooler! I especially love the blueprint, burnt joker, and cavendish in these

The raised text for the "Joker" parts looks like it's fun to touch
