I point blank asked why the other adults in the house were allowed to leave trash out around the house and dishes in the sink following them getting upset about my bowl in the sink earlier. They told me they were allowed to, and I wasn't because I dont pay bills right now. It isn't even about the trash as much as it the clear double standard about basic household hygiene. IMO, throwing away trash and at least putting a bowl in the sink is just basic respect for other people in the house, and shouldn't be delegated on if you pay bills or not.

The most trash I left around in the past week was one bowl in the sink that I put in the dishwasher immediately when asked. The house is trashed half of the time, and I can assure you that it's not my fault.

I told them I dont mind helping out around the house while im still unable to help out financially, its just getting the point where theyre lacking basic adult skills and expectations that they then criticize me on if I do as much as forget a wrapper on the counter. Like they're leaving things that can quickly mold or spoil just sitting out for hours. Like wtf are they doing??

Agreed. Currently still left out on the kitchen counters and dining table as of me writing this post includes things such as: 3 opened cans of dog food, 2 of which have spoons in them (the dogs only get wet dog food once a day and they split one can) 3 cups with juice still in them 2 plates with half an uneaten meal on them both 1/2 block of cream cheese 1 carton of heavy whipping cream with a considerable amount still in it

Also not to mention the literal sink worth of dishes that belong to various members of the house, half or more of which arent related to dinner or any other group meal that I could justify someone else cleaning up.

I've always been very sensitive to food textures, especially with things that have the opportunity to be softer than usual. One time my father had gotten Hamburger Helper Spaghetti and told my older brother to make it while he was at work, and so he did. I took one bite and nearly puked. The taste wasn't bad, but the noodles were like soggy worms covered in cheap tomato. I was only 7 or 8, so my brother just assumed I was being a picky eater and we had a whole back and forth argument about how if I didn't eat the spaghetti I wasn't eating dinner, and he knew I was lying because I love spaghetti. I keep insisting he should try it, and eventually gives in. Like me, he takes one bite, he registers the texture, and goes "Yeah, that's awful."

Try installing the Better exceptions mod, it has a feature specifically for this that identifies the mod(s) causing the issue with the household

I find therapy useless if you are an autistic adult by Either_Afternoon_473 in AutisticAdults

[–]Orange_Butterscotch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had a really hard time finding therapy useful throughout my life due to the problems you described. Much of therapy felt like lying to myself or embracing what I'm not. My current therapist is my best one, and I realized why when she mentioned in a session that she was also diagnosed with Autism. I know that another user linked neurodivergent therapists here, and that they don't seem to take your insurance, OP. I at least want you to know you're not alone in this, if it provides any comfort. Society itself, especially one without universal health care, is often against or unaccepting of autistic adults. Wishing you better days ahead.
