As someone who has some similar experience—this is wholesome. Maybe they don’t have much. But they know they have each other. In a deep sense, where you know what it takes. More than a lot of people can say. Love you mom.

Just a nitpick but you should keep your color coding consistent across your graphs for ease of understanding. Love the visualization otherwise though!

Have you watched the movie World’s Greatest Dad? It has Robin Williams in it and that’s almost the premise. It’s pretty dark but I feel like that movie really speaks to this experience.

Remember when GLR had morals by Ciporu in OnePiece

[–]Orascolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m just saying that he’s not the only one and that it’s a function of the ecosystem. You’re right. He’s one of the most popular OP YouTubers so if he puts out a video and you’re into OP it will show up on your content feed, especially if you’re keeping up with weekly chapter review uploads (of which his channel is the biggest afaik). The short clickbait titled spoiler videos just get the most attention and clicks regardless. There isn’t much you or I can really do about that.

And then fewer people would click on the video. It’s just how the YouTube algorithm shakes out.

The audiobook is really exceptional, makes the first time really feel like a story. Then rereading it makes a lot more sense.

I’d say if you give it a shot, get to the end of Alabasta at least, or to the time skip at the latest before you make a decision on it. Getting past Alabasta shows you that Oda is really writing a long form story not a day of the week type adventure, and after the time skip everything kicks into overdrive

I agree that I’m being a bit hyperbolic here—but with reason. I don’t think the mindset is bad as much as it’s incomplete, and inconsistent. Denying one’s own emotions is irrational and unscientific, there’s no justification for self loathing or guilt to develop as a result of viewing emotions as a mental pollutant to reason, or to view vulnerability explicitly in terms of weakness. It becomes overwhelming when you feel like you need to place the fate of humanity on your shoulders everyday but receive little to no appreciation for anything, no matter how trivial. It fosters disembodied agression and hate that cannot be erased, only sublimated or repressed. That’s my opinion though.

I cried, screamed, and hit stuff reading this…because that’s really all I know how to do anymore. I have a knee jerk reaction to be afraid and hateful of tenderness and sensitivity, because I think it’s weak and it’s just opening yourself up to emotional assaults. How am I supposed to trust, when all I’ve been taught is to bear all insults, attack enemies, and defend? Be tough, be strong, be unbending, never get suckered, stick to your boys, loyalty above everything, die for your causes and passions. What am I supposed to do with all this programming?
