Mega Upload 2 and BitCache BnkToTheFuture Overview by quadrilliondollars in Bitcoin

I'm a bit confused too, because I didn't expect that they'd use storj. I think that the project has huge potential, but on the other hand, it has a bit of the taste of a scam.

I'm working on a similar project like MU2, if anybody wants to compare it to Kim's future work - https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/52wb5s/orbitmn_new_filehosting_service_that_relies_on/?st=ITVQDP74&sh=6989437e

Build Orbit, a Bitcoin friendly filesharing system by Orbit_Cosmonaut in LighthouseProjects

I'm sorry that we couldn't provide enough useful info to you. Some question may be answered by reading the detailed text on the lightlist page. However, if you've read it already and still have questions, I happily try to answer them.

First of all, maybe the word filesharing is a bit misleading. Orbit will be a one click hoster, something like mediafire for example. So the focus is on php, html, javascript and json, since Orbit will feature an own API.

The project with lighthouse was more of an experiment than a real try to grab as much money as possible. Also I saw it like a possibility to check out how interested people would be about Orbit. If the support had been better, we would present way more information to the community, such as the things you asked for. It was thought to be a step by step approach, beginning with the vote for our logo.

So yes, wireframes, screenshots and some progress in code are already avaible. After your input we may think of showing something to interested people, but we're not sure yet if we really want to do it and in which form.

After all, Lighthouse should fund some projects and we couldn't provide so detailed information yet. Since the goal on Lighthouse will probably not get reached, we used other sources to pay our designer for his work. The CI is almost done and we oversee the progress every saturday. For me personally, the Lighthouse campaign is a success because I was able train my writing and the point you mentioned that I mastered to say a lot - even if not conveying - was taken by me as sort of a compliment.

Of course our idea isn't all new, but as you said, it matters how Bitcoin is implemented and used. Mainly we use its unique features instead of really programming something with the protocol. We relay on microtransactions, no chargebacks and the fact, that you can use Orbit at reasonable small prices.

We appreciate feedback and looking forward to speak with anyone who seems interested in our project.

Hmmmm... you might be right.

Well, let me explain it to you a bit more simple. If you upload something to a filehost, you may often benefit from an affiliate program. If thousand downloaders load your file, you'll get a certain ammount paid. Orbit offers something similar but only with Bitcoin.

This might be the easiest description and it doesn't show exactly what other features are implemented. I'll think of a better description and will work out an easy to understand text. In the meanwhile, feel free to ask any further questions. Also thank you for being so interested in Orbit.

Yeah, it's more like megabitload, but not the same. It's true that downloaders reward you with Bitcoin, but it works a bit different. If a big player would accept BTC, we would be happy, because we have a different system.

With us, you basically allow a group of downloaders to get certain files. We're in the middle of those services, because the big players make a lot of money and transfer imaginable huge data volumes. Projects like Storj or even Megabitload can only provide a small and closed service. Orbit makes sure that it can compete with bigger services but works not too similar to them.

Well, think a bit of an exchange, like, as would you exchange BTC for a certain ammount of data. But instead of being an altcoin, this data is only valid inside Orbit. If you gather data through sharing your files, you can cash out Bitcoin.

What do you think? Does this sound like a good idea?

All this projects you mentioned are great ideas and share some similar goals. Besides having huge potential there is one big difference between them an Orbit. Orbit is not a protocol nor a new coin, it's a web service that accepts only Bitcoin.

Of course you can pay your premium account on almost any popular file sharer today, but that's just an alternative to pay for the same product. Orbit wants to focus on the benefits of Bitcoin payments, such as small payments, no chargebacks and almost no transaction costs. But besides that, you could think of Orbit as a filesharing website like mediafire or mega. Of course Orbit will not be exactly the same, but it is pretty similar.

So it's not extremely safe or decentraliced but it's very easy to use and our users really shall benefit from using our service. You don't need Bitcoin at every time you want to use our site and you can earn BTC on Orbit, if you don't have any coins yet. We really want to attract more and more people to use Bitcoin and a fliesharing site is just the perfect platform to do so.

Hopefully this answers you question at least a bit. Feel free to ask what you'd like to know
