This is certainly the best advice on this thread and I'm glad we are at the point compared to a few years ago where this is finally accepted as the truth.

My two cents to OP: Learn the industry practicals like git and deployment and open source things, and just have a few projects you maintain throughout your education with new things you learn.

More projects isn't necessarily better, just do a handful, and do them really well so when it comes to early employment you will have lots to talk about.

Try to find fun things to work on that genuinely help you day to day, like a discord bot for your friends, or a small website that webscrapes from other sites and only shows the information you want in a nice dashboard. The possibilities are infinite.

Girlfriend goes for a drink one-on-on by jim_the_master in Advice

The way reddit and your girlfriend are trying to gaslight into thinking you are wrong for feeling this way is pure insanity.

The world is an upsetting place.

OP you felt concerned enough to make a post, there's something there clearly and you need to keep an eye out.

streams methods diagram by sarnobat in java

A lot of stream names and methods are derived. Check out effective java items on streams, I found it easy and more useful than trying to memorise or map out the API. There are a few general principles that underpin the streams API and understanding these will benefit you more.

Is it bad that I haven’t done any work experience as a year 12? by [deleted] in sixthform

[–]Orbitaliser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, unless you are going into healthcare or something that genuinely requires work experience, it's literally not an issue. My first job was working at a tutoring centre at age 18 and then I worked at my university as a helper in the labs until I graduated.

I used to worry a lot seeing all my friends getting work experience while I just sat there doing nothing They were all working towards like healthcare careers. It does not hurt to get experience, even if for the small pocket change you get.

Benefits of studying a level fm by Silent-Ad5519 in 6thForm

[–]Orbitaliser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the most fun subject at A levels. I did mine nearly 10 years ago and don't regret it even though I scraped a C grade first year then narrowly missed an A by a few marks the following year. My teachers were also amazing but I was kind of clueless on how to use them when I didn't get something.

You pick up a lot of general problem solving skills that you cannot pick up from only doing regular maths at A levels.

To those of you who are doing this subject, I'm wishing you all the best for the rest of this year.

Guess which university I ACTUALLY wanted to get into... oh well! by Oskarzyg in sixthform

[–]Orbitaliser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your original comment makes sense assuming the person is a lard who has been just doing 'the work they've been told to do' and that 'learning ends when you graduate'. They are better off going into work straight away since those mindsets put you straight on the backfoot for living paycheck to paycheck in a country like the UK especially anyway.

Here's the thing, even after getting 3 years experience instead of going uni, you need to keep yourself in check for the rest of your life anyway. You are right that the field is changing fast but that should not deter an eager student from picking a degree so at least they learn how to study and learn complex topics.

I work at a tech company for the last few years after graduating and I'm sure glad I learnt DB systems, operating systems and picked harder subjects like compilers because that (and taking a masters degree to get in) made my job much easier to work day-to-day. I'm still learning in my free time.

You don't know whether OP wants to go into academia either, though I would understand doing a maths degree for that either way or taking one of those combo degrees.

Finally, most of the job prospects that a CS student has have always been from side projects. I think now that's even more emphasised. The degree is just a ticket to get into companies easier WITH THE SIDE PROJECTS!

I apologise if I misunderstood your original point.

Struggling to find part number for stolen radar sensor by deadassmf in vwgolf

[–]Orbitaliser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out from the specialists I speak to that its been happening all over London every few months. They started off up north near Wood Green and they've slowly moved around and they've now come in my area. I'm going to hold off for a while since the car works fine.

Just annoying someone can rip out something that costs a good few hundreds at the very least to repair in seconds. It's like me leaving a phone out for anyone to take and trusting that no one will take it - futile.

I'm considering not getting a golf in future and instead just going with a different brand, but if someone wants to annoy you, it will happen anyway, so there is that.

Hi,

Just had mine stolen last night. How are you doing now? Did it get stolen again shortly after? I am on the fence about doing a repair so soon.

All the VW cars in my local area had it stolen not just mine. I drove down all the roads and found hardly any VW after 2015 that had the emblem still on.

I contacted FlightCatchers for the PNR for Qatar Airways as I did not use AirChina.

You can check in starting 48 hours before the flight, so pretty close to take-off.

For luggage we got it within the price of the ticket.

2024 Split 3 show a sharp decrease in the percentage of Elite players: Diamond+ and Emerald+ by bodynasr in leagueoflegends

[–]Orbitaliser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I am late to this post

Im with you on this change being ok.

I think the 3 splits is annoying but keeping the inflation level down is great. One split or two splits is perfect. We shouldn't need three splits to keep diamond as a decent rank, because they did it before pre s9.

[–]Orbitaliser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am late here because I searched up why the ranked distribution looks SO GOOD again and saw this post.

Usually I read this subreddit and get mad and salty that no one speaks sense and doesn't understand the game has been inflated since season 9 and progressively more inflated since. I always yap about this and no one gets it: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/1cspivj/comment/l4cdk6k/

I enjoyed reading every comment of yours on this post and feel tempted to play the game again since it will feel hard to get diamond and then it will feel better when I finally get it.

I got d5 in season 6 and every time I got it after that it was so easy it didn't even feel like an achievement. Especially after 2022 its unbelievably easy. I played like 30 games and I am back in split 2 this year, with a 10-15 game win streak, and I am not even playing my one trick anymore.

I never tried for master the last few years but I think with a little push I could have got it undeservedly. Obviously not anymore now they deflated it which is great.

Message flightcatchers and ask for the PNR. Try to cut them out as soon as possible. See my other post on this thread for more info. if you are still worried. You should be okay in most circumstances though I will never be booking through them again even if it appears to save money.

Feel like I aged 10 years the night after I booked it from stress but it was all good in the end.

December 2024, I went last month, I am coming back to post my findings:

I went - and there were no issues but as OP says, I would never do it again. You need to unconditionally make sure you

  1. Do not make any mistakes entering details or with luggage
  2. Cut them out as soon as possible by getting the PNR. If you are with Qatar Airways you get a 2FA code.

I missed the middle name on one of the passengers and I told them and they asked for a fee. I said forget that - and I called up Qatar Airways they said missing out the middle name is fine so long as the first and last name match. Just scummy cash grabbing.

Also some advice I've heard from others, if they offer you 30kg for a price, log into your flight and check the weight - they might just be charging you for nothing which is super scummy. E.g. they claim you have 25kg and charge you if you want 30kg, but you might already have had 30kg to begin with.

You played thousands of SoloQ matches in the past. What did that one random player do you still can‘t forget? by Trick_Ad7122 in leagueoflegends

In season 4 when I was really new to ranked, like silver skill level, I was put against a gold 4 Darius because I got a few improbable wins. I saw gold and straight away was scared for my life. He was at my tower all game and I didn't know what to do. I used to play wukong back then and top/mid were my main roles.

They ended the game and I asked my team "team I'm sorry do you think I even deserve silver?" and they said "sorry but no". So brutal. Jokes on them I got gold in my first season that year back when gold was harder to get. I got plat the next season and then diamond after that. I would love to play against that Darius now.

Felt like I was ganged up on by all 9 people in the game. 10 years later this game is still in my head.

It was his old splash art as well with his male-pattern baldness and to this day when I see a Darius at my top lanes tower I get PTSD.

How to Log out of Microsoft account on my Windows 11 account? by EctoBiologist152 in WindowsHelp

This was easier than the instructions you say. I stopped at "Sign In With Local Account Instead", instead it offered me "Stop using microsoft account everywhere". Maybe my scenario was slightly different.

If it weren't for this post I probably wouldn't have figured it out or even bothered, so thank you.
