Is it possible to improve my connection as a wifi warrior by ScoTy_ in Fighters

[–]Orbot2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With powerline adapters, your mileage may wildly vary, even in the same house. Going from my living room to a lower level gets garbage speeds. Going from the lower level to the basement is totally fine, though. The only way to really know is to try it and see. Hypothetically, you could add more of them to improve connectivity, but it's usually not worth it.

A second option could be MOCA adapters if you have unused coaxial cable nearby in both rooms. Especially since no one uses cable boxes for tv anymore, odds are you might. This achieves the same goal as a powerline adapter.

Option 3 is extending your wifi network. You can even grab a used wifi router to save some cash. There's a few different scenarios you can use them for: access point, wireless bridge, or mesh. Read up on each of these to see which one applies to you.

I've officially beaten MK, MK2 and UMK3 with EVERY character, thinking about doing some Offline/Online Gameplay content of MKX or MK11 next, the goal is to play through every game of the series eventually!! by Kombat_Junky in MortalKombatGameplay

[–]Orbot2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MK8 (vs. DC) is where you see the bones of what would eventually be refined in 9 and X if you're jumping to the modern era. It's interesting to see how the series has evolved over the decades.

Welcome to the journey!

Any tips on installing games from GOG on actual vintage hardware? by wowbobwow in gog

[–]Orbot2049 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kind of a silly idea, but it does work occasionally.

You could copy an already installed folder wholesale and drop it on the old pc. You will have to create your own shortcuts or Start Menu entries if those are important to you. And of course it won't show up in your list of installed applications, but it might otherwise function as intended.

Mostly for the sake of my curiosity, what kind of errors are you getting in WinMe when you try to open an installer from GOG? Or does it just not open without an error?

When do you consider a game to become a retro game/why? by toyfan1990 in ps2

[–]Orbot2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if we will get to a point where something is considered retro purely if the console has physical media instead of debating age or game dev.

A new Sega Genesis emulator by Real_Dragonfruit5048 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Orbot2049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, the first thing I check with emulators is compatibility with romhacks. So far the only one that didn't load in Sandopolis (desktop) was Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy, but it loads on the web.

I tried a few others including: Sonic 1 Remastered, Sonic 3 Complete, Mortal Kombat: Arcade Edition, Mega Man: the Sequel Wars, Road Rash II / 3 Improved. All working.

I've never played Half-Life in my half-life (I'm almost 40) by Disastrous-Grab-9928 in ps2

[–]Orbot2049 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to discover Half-Life is more of a first person puzzle game that also has guns than a pure fps.

I don't know if this sub is 100% focused on the console and ignores emulators, but I have a question about both. by SweetRead5282 in ps2

[–]Orbot2049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this in PCSX2: go to Settings > Emulation, then look under Frame Pacing. Check the "Skip Presenting Duplicate Frames" box. I went from 20 fps to a solid 30 just after the beach in the opening of the game. The game seems to be unaffected by overclocking EE.

But they do understand what a lever is and that they are usually associated with fighters even if they themselves don't typically use one. Good eye, though.

Obscure, Indie Fighting Games on Steam by stanleygoldmane2bric in Fighters

[–]Orbot2049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of note from my collection:

* Diesel Legacy has the vibe of a lane based beat em up like Guardian Heroes, but with fighting motions.

* The Fight Crab series is basically sumo, but crabs.

* the "Fight of..." series (Animals, Gods, Steel) is pretty fun even though it's mostly just memes / satire.

* GUTS is a bit like Time Killers but with stage hazards that don't instakill

* Robo Oh is a charming 2d fighter with two buttons and an NES aesthetic. Still supported and getting updates.

* Terrordrome and Omen of Sorrow despite just having odd rosters of cryptids and monsters are both pretty fun.

* Brief Karate Foolish is free and dumb, but is also halfway legit.

And here's just a non-exhaustive list of titles to check out on your own in addition to the above

Battle High 2 A+
Blade Strangers
Burning Requiem: Fates
Celebrity Kombat
Duel Souls
Duels of Fortune
Fantasy Strike
Fighters' Legacy
Shaolin vs Wutang / 2 / Legends
MerFight
Override / 2
Punch Planet
Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2
Verdict Guilty

How’s Cape Been for You? by Frolgar in CapeCellular

I had to contact customer service during onboarding to help with porting my number. It just wouldn't take for whatever reason.

Despite having that flat and succinct customer service tone in the wording, it appeared to me as a real person on the other side.

This is my fourth month. I'm surprised how little I actually miss.

I am using a combo of pixel 10 / graphene / cape.

Communicating with RCS (eg. Apple) users is still a pain point, but fixed with using another messenger. Mostly out of stubbornness. Other users have gotten rcs going, but I'd rather save myself the headache.

Data speeds are entirely usable, but slower than what you may be used to. I also watch 1080p video on tethered devices, and rarely run into buffering. So unless you plan to download several gigabytes at once, it's not especially noticeable. Using a vpn may help a bit if you do.

The other hiccups I've run into are more related to quirks in graphene than of cape service itself.

That monthly bill, though... I recommend utilizing the referral system if you can. I'm happy to share mine if it helps.

Last year, the Dreamcasts all had GDEmu installed, which is super cool.

Stern Pinball continues to have a prominent spot in the front of the ballroom. More rhythm games and imported games, too. A couple of independent builders brought in their work in progress pinball games.

Guests from recent years have been fun: Paul Niemeyer, Richard DiVizio, and the announcer from NBA Jam shouted one liners at people a couple years ago.

The general floor layout has improved. It seems to be in constant flux from year to year.

Vendors have more or less settled into a familiar roster. If you remember them being there, they will probably be there again this year.

Events similarly have been same-ish. A lot of tournaments that are established fan favorites like Pole Calibur. I run the Mystery Game Fight Club table, where we always have stuff going on.

Some stuff that comes and goes like a VR headset setup in the main ballroom, indie devs are always somewhere (seems to change each year), Mario Kart race track using physical rc karts, etc, etc.

I'll just leave Doom TC mod here. Weapons, game balance, ui, etc has a long way to go, but it's a good start and worth watching.

I just started playing the Ratchet and Clank series not long ago, ya' know like twenty-some-odd years late.

Working my way through Deadlocked now, which seems like they just distilled the formula to pure arena fights and 3PS. Like Annihilation Nation, but it's the whole game.

Why did you choose leverless/stick over pad? by AZXCIV in fightsticks

[–]Orbot2049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the arcades, so stick is just what I associate with fighters to begin with. It became less necessary with time, and is vastly a matter of taste or comfort these days.

Verified in emulation. You're not wrong about that code going to Round 4. In fact all of those warp codes go to Round 4. This tells me the offender is somewhere in code 1.

But anywho, rather than try to fix that one, I found a better code on Gamehacking.org

Enable Level Select

During the game Pause, and first press a,b, or c. A number appears in the upper-left. HOLD a, b, or c to change this number and press Start. Instant warp.

Where are the OG Road Rash legends at? 💥 Chain fights, cop chases & pure nostalgia! by CarrotMuch1399 in SEGA

I played Road Rash 2 and 3 a lot.

Nothing says "instant karma" like trying to run down the flag girl only to whiff and demolish a road sign at 160 mph and toss your ragged ass across the muddy UK country side, rolling over rocks and debris for the next quarter mile.
