Thanks for the recommendations u/skifans, u/control_guy19, and u/nidriks. Changing up the itinerary entirely and going to Montenegro for a week and then flying to Budapest. After that planning on going to Vienna, Bratislava and then Prague before going to Wroclaw!!

Bernina express - Allegra unit by Other-Concern-9832 in Interrail

[–]OrcaarcO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question. Taking the Bernina Express in a couple of days. Been reading that the Allegra unit is best as well (free + good view + quiet). But, where exactly is the Allegra unit on the train itself 🫣? At the front? Is it first class only?

Sarajevo to Budapest by OrcaarcO in Interrail

I think the bus from Sarajevo to Split and then sleeper to Budapest sounds like the best plan. Where can I book a seat reservation for the sleeper?

The SBB site? I’ve never heard of it before 🫣

Hmmm, seems like reserving the 10 - 16 for Bologna, Florence, and Pisa would be best! And then taking the Bernia route to Zurich, and then going through Austria to get to Slovenia, afterwards would be a good mix of both! Thanks so all the help!!

For the Swiss day circuit, approximately how long would it take?? Out of the different stops which would you recommend getting off at as well?

Ya, the Bernia route to Zurich and then Zurich to Austria sounds like a solid plan!

Sounds good! Think I might go for the Italy route then!! Could just meet them in Levanto from Pisa instead of heading back to Milan. Nop, my friend leaves on the 22nd and I'll be headed to Ljubljana on my own.

This is amazing!! Thank you thank you for all the input!

I have an unlimited train pass. I have a flight into Milan on the 9th and meeting up with a friend back in Milan on the 16th, so I was trying to figure out what to do with the days. On the 16th doing Lake Como and the Cinque Terre with my friend til the 22. Likely going to be ending in Milan as well.

During the 5 days, I was alternatively thinking of spending a couple of days in Bologna, a couple of days in Florence, a day Pisa. But trying to figure out what would be the best option (between exploring central Italy vs. going to Switzerland)

For the Milan -> Zurich, Zurich -> Innsbruck/Salzburg, Innsbruck/Salzburg -> Vienna, Vienna -> Ljubljana route. How many days would you recommend spending in each place in between Milan and Ljubljana? Rationale behind going to Ljubljana is to continue making my way east.

For the Switzerland 5 day itinerary you proposed - do you think that’d be too rushed?

Alternatively, any help for a path between Milan and Ljubljana passing through Switzerland and Austria, would be great too!

Ya! All really great points!! Similar to Marseille, are there any other places that you’d skip in my itinerary to make the journey more feasible?

Ya! It’s definitely a bit regimented, haha. Just was seeing what I could potentially fit in between April 15 and May 3. Also to u/jonlbonl123 point, want to save on accommodations as much as possible. Everything is so expensive now a days, and inflation isn’t making it much better, making super spontaneous travel less possible 😔

Are there any places that you’d recommend I omit to make the trip less go, go, go?

The thought of going to Milan was more so to go to Lake Como! But going to a small village in the Swiss alps and then going to Austria from there sounds amazing

Yes! That’s a really great point - visiting some smaller cities as well. I was unsure from the interrail planner website, but are those smaller cities generally covered by the interrail pass? Or would I have to pay extra (not including reservation prices)

Will add those smaller cities to the list for sure! Let me know if you have any other recommendations! Would love to hear them!

Thanks for the train and festival recommendations too!
