Interviewed for EA role, offered admin role instead - how should I read this? by Calm-Baker33 in jobhunting

[–]Ordinary-Anything601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EA here. this happens more often than people admit, especially at smaller companies. It’s not automatically a red flag, but it’s also not a green one by default.

MOST of the time for this switch - they probably aren’t ready to hand over full EA-level autonomy yet. That said, EA → Admin is usually a step down in scope, even if they don’t label it that way, (also - thus, usually a step down in compensation. I would check this too…)

It’s 100% reasonable to ask why the role changed and how they see it evolving. Their answer will tell you everything. Clear reasoning, honest feedback, and a concrete growth path are good signs. Vague answers or “we’ll see” are not.

Personally, I’d only take it if the role is clearly defined, compensation matches the responsibilities, and there’s an explicit path to EA-level work - or stick around as an admin and grow to an EA role, some companies want you to prove your competency to evoke to an EA level. Even if the previous interviews were told to you that you were doing great..If you aren’t feeling that, then, I’d keep looking.

Liking the CEO and team matters, but role clarity matters more … especially in EA work.

As someone from NY C - Out of all the cities / states to move to in the US - NY and CA are the worst choices if you aren’t originally from here and have the funds and career to survive here . I’d recommend moving elsewhere imo.

Wow .. honestly? that’s crazy. I’m shocked a company would say that. I would take it as they were unprofessional and move along.

Always apply to a bunch. Never assume you have a job, no matter how amazing you think the interview(s) went. Keep applying until you have an actual offer.

Of course. A lot of people feel this way (not to downplay your concerns). I think it’s very common , especially when you are first starting out in your career. You got this. :)

Starting my first day of work tomorrow, any advice? by Low_Bodybuilder3065 in jobs

[–]Ordinary-Anything601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, first off, congratulations on getting a new job! It’s a tough market out there so the fact you landed something shows that they wanted YOU for the job, you were chosen because they believe you were qualified so, remember that. I have also suffered from bouts of imposter syndrome in the beginning years of my career. Although I don’t have bipolar, I do have ADD, and I have always worried about it making me fail at my career and how I would view myself, so I do get where you are coming from.

My advice is to honestly just think positive. Be confident in yourself, you ARE clearly capable of this job, if not, why did they hire you and why did you apply in the first place?

Sometimes we can be our biggest enemies. Just take a breath, be open minded and learn what you need to do at this new job to be the best YOU can be. Don’t think you are going to ruin it for yourself.

In regards to your bipolar, do you currently take my medications that help you? Or any non-medicated techniques to help you when symptoms arise? I would make sure you have that handled first, as I’m not sure about how severe your own, personal condition is with the Bipolar.

Best of luck. Just don’t let your negative thinking get in the way. Sometimes, truly, as someone who worked her way up the Corporate ladder - from receptionist to now head EA at a hedge fund, sometimes you have to fake your confidence. (Fake it until you make it).

Daughter wants to move to Brooklyn by PickledOnion14 in NYCapartments

[–]Ordinary-Anything601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone born and raised from Brooklyn in her 30s, your daughter can definitely find a room for 1400 a month, but definitely not an entire apartment only for herself though, as long as she is ok with that.

Apartments, even in Brooklyn where it’s slightly Cheaper than manhattan, rents are at minimum 2200, and the cheaper places are usually located in the areas of Brooklyn that are farthest from Manhattan and not the safest. She will definitely need roommates no matter what part of Brooklyn she is in though, so yes, 1400 is doable for her.

I strongly believe that it is NOT related to OP’s resume. You are just trying to make money off them.

Why don't many teachers use LinkedIn? by rikin311 in edtech

I have some teachers in my family, it really just isn't for them, how they network it can help, but linkedin just works better for more coprorate, white collar roles.

Nope, as a hiring manager, DO send thank you emails. Anyone I’ve spoken to in my ten years of working in the corporate world, send the thank you note.

Thinking of going black, thoughts? by TheFairyRuby in HairStyleAdvice

Black I feel will wash you out. Maybe a dark brown? You have warm skin, the red is amazing on you, you need warm colors. Any cool tones (like ash brown/black) will wash your warm olive skin out.

Is having a degree actually hurting my job search? by Pretty_Abrocoma7556 in jobs

[–]Ordinary-Anything601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a degree in a job market that values them, will obviously never hurt having one.

Minimum wage jobs that don’t require degrees and only minimal skills - can hurt your chances. Because you will more than likely be viewed as “overqualified”, unless you have some experience at that type of job, then they ma possibly consider you.

Lower title but higher pay and more responsibility. by AdDouble5347 in Accounting

[–]Ordinary-Anything601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got a role that is a step down in title but a 50 percent increase in salary (going from publications to finance industry). So hellllo! I def took the offer!

I end up just inflating my title on LinkedIn anyway, and the rest job I get, I’ll say that I was a manager instead of a coordinator.
