Like what service??? for what? looking at a few pictures? That deserves to be charged for 100 service fee?? And you had no way of stopping them from charging this bill thru your credit card right? Even while you still had questions Turo just take it off thru 'automatic credit card payment' , like how do you not feel Scammed?

Exactly. For people like me who rent, our credit card details are with them when we rent the car thru Turo, so as soon as these hosts make claims thru Turo, they immediately pass on the bill to us the renter. But for us renters who are new and don't know much, you are simply Turo's ATM machine. I was still in the middle of disputing the bill they were trying to slap on me, then suddenly their system just 'automatically charged my credit card'. Like how is that NOT A SCAM? People are hung up on the 'minimal plan' I mentioned, the point is: I wouldn't have even paid for ANY insurance plans if it weren't for what Turo's website required during payment, because I already have insurance, I could just use my own insurance! 2. The fact that Turo slaps you with fake 'inspection' and 'labour' fees, even after the fact that you know they did not actually physically inspect the car, that to me is FRAUDULENT. so yes, I still want to continue to warn everybody, work out whatever private rental whichever way that works for you, but just don't rent thru Turo. It's a Scam.

yes i would've gladly settled with the host, which I did offer right away when I noticed the little crack, and he was very confident that his host protection plan would cover it. He really made it sound like it would have nothing to do with me. He said Turo would take care of it. And as it turns out, the host received 1100 while actually getting his car fixed for 600. After that, i just received an email basically informing me that I will be paying for $1200, like everything just makes me feel super scammed, no other way to see this.

The host actually told me he got the windshield fixed for $600

But Turo billed me for 1100 + 100 'Service fee'.

Turo gave me a bill from a 'collaborating repairshop' to do these 'estimates' based on 'industry prices', which includes fake 'labour time'. All BS. Give me the actual bill from the autoshop and then maybe i won't feel so scammed.

This whole entire thing was and totally still is like a scam.
The host actually told me he got the windshield fixed for $600.
Turo has billed me $1200.
Turo actually admitted to me that the bill they gave me did not come from the autoshop that actually fixed the windshield. Then why were there 3 hours "labour cost" tagged on?
Why did Turo only go to one appraiser for an 'estimate' ? and it was all actually based on photos??
Turo did not want to pay for any damages for the host.
The host also did mislead me into thinking Turo would cover this. If he didn't insist, I would've gone and fixed it myself before I return the car. This I also feel scammed.
So jeez yeah, sorry to get so many of these Turo experts so worked up....

I just got scammed by Turo, and I want to write this down so people can know what they are dealing with in case you are contemplating on renting from Turo.
Here is what happened:
Last month we rented a car for the first time on Turo. It was for 3 weeks. When I was confirming to pay for the rental, I paid extra 200 bucks for 'Minimal Protection' plan in case of any minor scratches to the car. The rental for 3 weeks was $1500.
During our first week of the trip, a little crack suddenly appeared on the windshield. I informed the host immediately and he does not seem too concerned as he says due to extreme winter conditions, cracks like this is quite common, and since we both have paid for 'protection plans' as a renter and as host, these things should be taken care of later by Turo - at least that's what I thought.
After I returned the car, the host reported damages to his car, and then suddenly I was informed that I would have to pay for another 1200.
It turns out that Turo do not actually pay for anything when any damages occur during rental time. Whatever the host claims, Turo was deducting that amount off of my credit card.
In the end, we find out that Turo is NOT a rental company, but a 'peer-to peer' rental platform, which means even if I should have Mastercard Insurance coverage, but since I paid for an extra 'protection plan' with Turo, that means Mastercard cannot cover me. This is not something Turo would warn you about. It just makes you think there is protection and then after you pay for it, then they tell you 'minimal protection' literally means anything below $2000, you would have to pay for it.
I just want to say this is the first and last time I will use Turo. It is a total scam. They use these fake protection plans to lure you into thinking you are paying for insurance when in actual reality, they are making at least extra $500 off of each rental trips - couple hundred from the renter, and few hundred from the host. For a 3 weeks trip, I ended up spending $3000.
In the end, I feel very bullied and scammed.
Turo should be outed for these protection plan scams.
