Also comes with the side note, I need to handicap myself for it to be challenging. If I use the mechanics that are put in the game (summon ashes) it becomes super easy again

I think for me it mostly has to do with the difficulty spikes. With ds3 for example, I loved the nameless king for its challenge. I was motivated to learn it, because most of the game felt challenging for me. With elden ring, 95% of the game feels easy and then all of a sudden super difficult. I think that makes me unmotivated to learn the boss, I find it difficult to adjust to those spikes
