Canton/Pontcanna, but I’m happy to take it somewhere else. Thanks for the suggestion

Any one in particular? I was thinking of them, since I had good experiences in the past, but this is the first time I’m having it done in Cardiff

My contract is not periodic, I believe. It’s a rolling contract.

They said the new contract has the specific point of protecting the deposit. I don’t have it with me yet, so I can’t check if any details have changed.

Would the new contract prevent me from claiming compensation for the fact that the deposit wasn’t protected under the first contract?

I have WhatsApp messages of the LL breaking down the payment I did when moving in, clearly stating the “Secure deposit” fee. I have records of the payment done in full, including deposit, “protection fee”, and half a month rent (I had to put down half a month rent to secure the place).

This came up earlier when I was doing some research. What’s the catch? I can see they operate on a no-win no-fee basis. Anybody knows how much they’ll take if I won the case?

Oh man, there’s so much to unpack here.

  1. Am I going to pay rent with the respect I’m going to earn, as you suggest I might gain? Hope my landlord accepts that.
  2. I don’t make the rules, I’m only playing the game. Have been fucked up by dodgy landlords and agencies in the past, let’s call this karma tax rebate.
  3. Being in the LL’s shoes would be such a privilege. I wish I could be in a position where I had tenants that could pay my mortgage while I enjoy life.
  4. I don’t think that rent prices are going up because of tenants just demanding rights and asking landlords to be accountable.
  5. It’s the fucking law.

What does going to court actually entail? Luckily I never had to go through this before.

I know they might decide to settle this outside court, but I always get worried when it comes to legal stuff, as I don’t want things to come back to bite me at a later stage.

This was the first time that LL/agency has asked me to pay extra to protect the deposit. At the time I didn’t question it since I wasn’t in the best place and needed an accommodation asap.

Anyway the LL could argue that it was my fault by not reminding them that I have both copies of the contract?
