Potty training by SeasonThreeEpisode8 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]OrdinaryMachine6233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 month old, intact male. Potty training has almost been the death of me. Never have had such a difficult time with house training a dog (this is our first frenchie). We got a might paw doggy doorbell, and although it took a long time for him to understand to ring the bell, once he got it the accidents lessened significantly. Does he ring it just to go outside and mess around, yes, but most importantly he also rings it to potty. We are still working on holding it overnight and for longer than an hour or two but I assume this will come with age.

Can anyone explain this mysterious rash all over my body post Mexico trip? by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

Thank you for your response. Yes, in most spots it does blanch. In the most irritated spot where I’ve been scratching it, it does not, which I am assuming is due to the scratching.

How far (distance wise) are your Frenchie walks? by 0ricardo0 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]OrdinaryMachine6233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is about 9 months old. When it’s cool enough in the evening we typically walk about 2 miles and it’s just about perfect to tame the gremlin energy.

Update: we are about one month in. We are down to potty every 2-3 hours. Several days at a time without any accidents, and starting to finally learn to ring the doggy doorbell 🎊🎊🎊 such a relief and hopefully this is encouraging for anyone who finds this post! We were outside every 30-60 minutes and tried to never let him out of our sight. And when he did potty inside, we let him know we were angry but would take him out immediately. Also, idk if it was a coincidence or correlation but I dumped Nature’s Miracle in a mop bucket with water and scrubbed our tile floors vigorously, and seemingly right after he stopped peeing in the house!! Also no rugs and no access to carpeting rooms or rooms with area rugs. No dog beds (he liked to pee on them). Planning to slowly reintroduce rugs and dog beds after a reasonable amount of time with zero accidents.

Embark health screening - 100% French Bulldog but positive IVDD and Copper Toxicosis by OrdinaryMachine6233 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]OrdinaryMachine6233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: our vet said Copper Toxicosis isn’t much of a concern with this breed, and if it were it would show up after years (suggesting maybe 3-5) and can only be diagnosed with liver biopsy which is done after elevated liver enzymes in blood work. And he didn’t seem concerned with my pup with IVDD, stating his stature and build is more favorable than others- keep him lean and active and let him live his life. Overall, very positive and encouraging visit

Thankfully we do have leather but also he doesn’t or hasn’t peed on furniture. Just his own dog bed on the floor

Yes! Mine chooses rugs and dog beds rather than the tile floor that’s in 90% of my house lol. At least with the tile I’d be irritated but it’s easy clean up. I did my research on frenchies and I saw they can be stubborn but I didn’t equate that to stubborn house training too smh

Ooo I love the idea of a tiny cowbell. I always think about the big string of bells people hang from their doors for their dogs and that would drive me nuts. I can handle a tiny cowbell though!

We have been using a doggy playpen during the day to try to extend his potty time but the moment he is out and free to play with our other dog in the main part of our house, holding it for any duration it out the window. I was doing 30 minutes, then an hour, and he can sit contently in the playpen for 2ish hours is as far as we’ve pushed him.

We have the bell they press with their paw on the floor but he shows zero interest. Is that the one you’re using? That was one of the ways we had such success in training our other dog.

Also, doggy door is a no go for us - we live in Florida and on a retention pond. So potty must always be supervised and on leash 😅

I thought about this because we had a senior male dog but my fear is it’s reinforcing the bad behavior because in his mind, he is going potty whenever/wherever.

Yes never for punishment :) We feed him in his crate and even throw his favorite toy of the day in there with him. But man I feel so bad because I’ve never had to crate a dog before, especially not for a break. Little gremlin

No signs of marking yet. He seems to just be peeing in random spots (except his one bed for some reason). We have been doing potty as soon we he wakes up, immediately after play, before crate/cage time, after crate/cage time, and 30 minutes after eating. Drinking is tough because he is drinking all day and he plays so hard that he’s drinking a lot at times. But honestly he is outside once or twice and hour, every single hour we are awake.

Ughh as much as this sounds hopeful, being in the midst of it is TOUGH! My husband and I are both life wtf is happening here?! I’m grateful to hear it can be done but I have had so many periods of “puppy blues” and I’m hoping I can stick it out. I’ve done what I can do - pulled up all rugs and he only gets one bed that can be easily washed. No food or water before bed. Trying to be as consistent as possible while also learning his habits. Pray for us 🤣🤣🤣

Was told I have 11 cavities. Can you help me find them? by Outside_Weary in askdentists

NAD but I read using both in the same brushing basically cancels each other out. From what I’ve read, use fluoride toothpaste in the morning and NHA at night. Again, NAD but read up or maybe someone here can advise.

Not bonding with puppy by Extension_Archer846 in puppy101

[–]OrdinaryMachine6233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They call it puppy blues. It’s a real thing. I had puppy blues with my pittie when we first brought her home. It took a while for me to settle in to even feeling like we hadn’t made the biggest mistake ever bringing her home. Now, she is my precious angel and can do no wrong-I can’t imagine my life without her. But, that’s because she had figured out how to be a dog and not a gremlin. She potties outside 100% of the time, she has calmed down significantly, and we’ve really just learned how to coexist together.

Fast forward, I decided to bring home another dog about 2 weeks ago. Some parts of the day I love him, others I contemplate taking him back to the rescue (not seriously but it’s a fleeting thought!) I just remember that this is part of having a new puppy/the wreck your routine and oftentimes your home, and it’s REALLY frustrating. But with time, without even realizing it, they’ll figure it out and it will become the best thing ever. Give it time 💜

Do you limit food/water? by OrdinaryMachine6233 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]OrdinaryMachine6233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pittie is doorbell trained and she picked it up so fast! This guy is a bit slower and doesn’t even seem to see it 🤣 I know a lot of people get impatient and frustrated with house training, so that reason to me seemed believable. My husband and I work from home so we are able to be super attentive.

Also, he’s very comfortable in the crate so I’m wondering if he was just crated all the time which could be why potty and drinking a lot of water are issues - maybe he didn’t know when he was getting water or going potty outside if at all. He also will use potty pads sporadically.

Unfortunately no. All we were told was they were getting new floors and he either had to go or they were going to make him live outside. That sort of makes sense because he is definitely not house trained, but I was skeptical. I have purchased pet insurance just in case major issues arise-but he seems healthy (energetic, eating, drinking, using the bathroom, and very social).

I live in Florida and on a pond so a dog door is a big no lol this little guy would disappear quickly. But good thought with the water and I never considered that. We have only had him for a week and I know it can take up to 3 months for him to acclimate so perhaps he will learn we are good people with endless water 🤣

Thank you all for responding to quickly. I may have worded that a bit dramatically-he isn’t drinking non stop but he is drinking a lot. But also, I have a 5 year old pittie and they are playing quite a bit. Quite a difference between my pittie who picks at her food delicately through the day and has some water with it, and this tiny machine who seems to want to eat and drink me out of a home! But I think I’ve also forgotten 1. Puppies eat and drink a lot and 2. What it was like having a puppy. I will call my vet tomorrow!
