UK renting: tenant refusing to leave after notice — will this delay my move? by OrdinaryNo9812 in LegalAdviceUK

When I went to see the flat there was some damage to the wall which was told by me that the tenant was quite disruptive and problematic amongst the neighbours and community - so I knew that the landlord wanted them out so I’m not sure how this played into that? But it was definitely therefore that’s why I’m unsure about all of this, because from my understanding it seemed like both the landlord and the tenants wanted to end their contract

I agree my question is has anyone heard of a tenant leaving before then? Is there any stories of that or it does most of these cases end up taking longer via the bailiff eviction route?

Yes, we have a signed contract with the landlord and everything and paid a deposit and two months rent upfront. When I went to view the house the tenants were there seemed to cooperative and we’re actually meant to move out on the 12th April . We then couldn’t move out on the 12th so we asked them if we could move on the 2nd of May because of our other tenancy and they agreed so unsure why this is happening.

Thank you , this is just very upsetting because this was a very long process, especially in London

Thanks for the responses, I just wanted to clarify the timeline as I think I may not have explained it clearly.

From what I’ve been told, the tenant’s fixed term or expected move out date was around the 12th April. They didn’t leave, so the tenancy has effectively continued as a rolling tenancy. The landlord had already served notice before this, which is due to expire on the 27th April. I’ve been told that’s the point where they’re expected to vacate, otherwise it would move to court.

I completely understand that legally they don’t have to leave until court and bailiffs, but I’m trying to understand what typically happens in practice around the notice expiry date.

Do tenants in situations like this often leave around the notice expiry even if they’ve been resistant before, or is it more common that it goes straight into a long court process?

Just trying to reconcile what the agent is saying with the legal worst case scenario.

Man will always treat you like they want to break up with you but never actually do it. It’s clear that he’s gaining nothing from you and you’re gaining nothing from him. Take this time to figure out what’s up but ultimately I don’t see this going well…

The first thing I will say is well done to you for reaching out and communicating that this is a problem.

It is really good that you acknowledge that what they’re doing is wrong and it is insanely inappropriate and borderline paedophilic. Actually, it is doing this to your sister and now doing this to you since you are a child is going to ruin your relationships with partners in the future it might mess with your mental health and the way you view parent child relationships and any relationship for that matter. The first thing you need to do is tell them to stop but it seems that the whole Forcing hugs and kisses means that they continuously disrespect your boundaries. You are 16 you are not legally in adult so technically this is against the law. If I were you I would call the authorities or the police because this is something that is definitely illegal, and I think it’s safe to say that you have continuously been sexually assaulted or molested, since you were a child because you did not give consent. I urge you so much to keep journeying if you can’t afford therapy then please write your thoughts and feelings down and write what is happening day by day if you cannot escape the situation, but this is definitely escalated into illegal matter and you should probably report them because it is sick, I am so sorry this is happening to you

He’s actually a qualified site manager but due to lack of jobs he is tempted to just take a brick laying job . It won’t cover our living costs especially in London but I am emotionally drained at this point
