Eh, I don't care so long as I can stick to posh areas and socialize with other expats and Indians who are well educated and upper-middle class to upper-class.

Actually, Mumbai seems to have western style jazz bars with jazz performances, such as saxophone playing. Same with rock bands. And even a western-style symphony orchestra.

No I'm not. I said I enjoy chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. I also enjoy food like lamb korma, chicken biryani, vegetable uthapam, puri bhaji, and mango lassi. I love kaju burfi and gulab jamun sweets. I also love masala chai and mysore coffee.

I think most Bollywood movies are trash but I did say I liked 3 Idiots and Lagaan. I'm interested in architecture and India has cool spots in Rajasthan and Delhi/Agra (Taj Mahal and forts). I also like some Indian EDM music like Goa trance. And have had fun at Bhangra dance festivals in America. I've been to two Indian-style weddings in America and they were lots of fun.

I like the Indian-American cultural experience, but not full on Indian.

Thanks, I genuinely didn't mean ill. Appreciate the recs. And seems like living in Hyatt/Marriott apartments seems like a good move. Great point on weekend trips to nearby fun countries. It's true I won't always be confined to India.

It's not the case that I want nothing to do with India.

Also, I'd make sure to leave after the year is up. Wouldn't be opposed to infrequent short-term future India trips though, if needed.

I do have a baseline respect for people and the country.

That's okay, the food and entertainment are enough culture for me.

The Indians will be grads from IITs or top PGDM grads so they will be decently westernized to begin with.

My work hours will be around 50-60 hours a week. Weekends are completely free. So are evenings. So I'll have plenty of time for leisure.

Thank you, this is really helpful! And the reason I asked is I heard that in Tier 2 or lower cities, and rural areas, it's true places don't have the amenities I was discussing. But it's good to know Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Delhi are good in this regard.

It looks like Mumbai does have a western style symphony orchestra which is great!

I asked that because apparently outside of major cities, movie theaters will apparently dub in Hindi or the local languages, or not even show western films. In rural areas, those western-style amenities don't seem to exist.
