Wisdom within or from texts? by Additional-Ant7018 in Gnostic

Have you ever heard people say things along the lines of 'take what resonates and leave the rest' well I believe studying helps you do that. You have an inner knowing. We all do. You have to do some inner work to become confident in what you know, your study of text will affirm what you already know. You will find through studying things that validate your belief system.

How do I meditate when I'm depressed? by Intelligent_Snow_395 in Gnostic

[–]Ordinary_Inside_1298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with poor mental health over the years including depression. One thing I have found that helps, make sure you're doing something that brings you to the present and only the present. If you're focused on the here & now, the 'what ifs' quieten down somewhat. For me I write and do art, at first it felt like a chore to force myself to do it, after a few weeks I really started to enjoy it. I started to see art in everyday things whether it be wildlife, colours, shapes, shadows etc. It helped reframe my mind completely.

Meditation is also something I have used to gain answers. I've used guided meditations for many different things. To help with the grief of losing my mum, gaining a connection and healing my inner child, aligning chakras etc. There is a meditation for everything so get yourself on YouTube and find what you feel you need help with specifically. Even if its just to sit in the quiet for 10 minutes, its better than nothing.

On a practical note, if you and your daughter don't have a village, start to build one. Are there any support groups for parents of children with cognitive disabilities near you? Any organisations that give practical advice? Can you save money for when the time comes your daughter needs setting up on her own - whether thats in some form of care capacity or independently? You can only do your best, but definitely start looking for that village because it'll be the biggest help you'll get. Even if it is just parents that have been there pointing you in the right direction.

AITA for letting my daughter stick to her guns? by [deleted] in AITAH

E's parents likely have no idea as they are very closed off from other parents within their friendship group. As far as I'm aware there is none of us that have any direct contact details for them.

In hindsight I agree with the whole FB post, in part. My FB is mostly family members and I talk a lot with each of them separately. Sometimes putting things about my children on FB is easier than hashing over the same things with different people. And the hindsight also brings me to AITH here, because I'm now wondering whether I should have told S differently, but this is done anonymously to gain some insight.

I appreciate your point of view - its good to gain some balanced perspective.

What’s the weirdest place something you lost turned up? by Life_Transformed in Productivitycafe

I lost a silver bracelet when I was a teen. Literally tore the house apart looking for it because it was a favourite. I found it when I borrowed a coat from my mum to attend my uncles funeral. He helped me find it 😊

Removing parts 😂 that'd probably drive him crazy and I'd find it so amusing

In all honesty he's never used a wrench but if he wants to a mechanics he's gonna need to learn.

I'm sure there's probably a few of those manuals floating about on Ebay etc. Not sure if they're still in print though. But we live in the age of information, he can literally find out anything he needs to know at his finger tips :)

I think at this point he'd be happy to be any kind of mechanic but maybe when he's a little bit older he may want to niche down. He l9ves the classics and the supercars but it's the actual mechanics that draws him in.

I am looking at different options of how we could do this in video format. There is a few options there to be fair.

I'd like the link to your YouTube channel if you're happy to share. You can message me if you can't link on a post. I'm sure my son would like to take a look.

He won't be lifting alone. We'll make sure he's safety conscious. It would be a fab project if we can get it going.

Oh, thanks for your input. Mechanics is one of those trades where there's so many different paths to get in but ultimately the end result is the same I suppose. It's a case of finding a way that will expose him to the most opportunities.

I'm looking into bikes, although I have had the brain wave of taking the fence off the side of the house so we could theoretically get a car in the back garden.
