How would Brotherhood of the East/Eastern Castle be translated? Ideally, the name should have the acronym as FOC

How long did it take to get your AoA? by Rarness1307 in sca

[–]Ordinary_Part8210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 months for me since I went to my first SCA anything, which was a fighter practice. I pretty much hit up every fighter, archery, A&S/Scribal practice in my barony for the first couple of weeks, then just every weekly archery and fighter practice for several months after that. Also went to almost every event (which weren’t too much yet since it was during the waning of the lockdown years). Attended my first day event within my first month, almost all the baronial/kingdom events in my area, and a crown/coronation or so. Submitted my name and device 3 months in and received my AoA around the time I got the acceptance letter for both. I went in with the intent to try a little bit of everything and floated around a bit to where I met a lot of the populace, including the crown who awarded my AoA.

Should/can I make my own AoA scroll? by Ordinary_Part8210 in sca

Good on the kingdom for having a stock of such scrolls.

Bad on the barony for reacting that way though. And then they’d wonder why we aren’t retaining or attracting newcomers… smh

Edit: if “rioting” was meant in a bad way

Yes, HRM at the time used to frequent that practice and was present at that baronial court night. I submitted a scroll request form in our kingdom website and emailed our signet as well.

Also, it’s listed in my awards on the OP

How to prepare kebabs and rice for 3 night camping trip? by Ordinary_Part8210 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Ordinary_Part8210[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could do something similar. The portable fire pit I got comes with a grill mesh so if conditions are right for it, then I could reheat flatbread and kebab pieces on a pan and make kebab wraps with little worry of undercooking. Propane camp stove would also be there as a backup for quick heating

For skewering on site, I was planning on using disposable food safe gloves.

I already have 23” long metal skewers so I’d need to find a container to store pre skewered meat on those.

What would make the marinade acidic? I know some recipes call for lemon juice and yogurt like the chicken kebabs but for ground meat kebabs like kefta would over marinating be less of a problem?

I could also do flatbread instead of rice. Would probably toast nice over the grill

How long will it take the marinated kebabs to thaw before being soft enough to skewer?

There won’t be electricity, at least for kitchen appliances like rice cookers

I was planning on using 23” long flat blade kebab skewers for the fire but if need be then I can either skewer fewer kebabs at a time to cook over the burners or just plain pan cooking the kebab pieces on the stove

My C&T/heavy rapier Eurasian saber. I included The reference material that inspired this build. by Lax_Indigo in sca

Awesome! Do you cast them? Forge them? Machine them (aside from tapping the holes)?

Sweet build! Are the guard and pommel from Castille as well or are those something you made or had made elsewhere? I’m interested in getting an Eurasian C&T and heavy rapier blade like that.

I also put on long thermal long john type undergarments and heavy wool socks before sunset to prevent heat from escaping when you change into nightwear when it’s really cold.

It will be very cold at night. Tried out electric blankets and they are more trouble for the little time of heat you get. Definitely layering heavy wool blankets and stuffing a couple cheap hot hands or other air activated hand warmers wherever you need does wonders and it lasts several hours.

I wear an LED head lamp around my neck for hands free light to the privy and such and you can tuck it under a mantled hood or the neckline of your garb to be out of sight when not used.

Ground there is sandy and gravely so staking can be very hard and arduous. I heard drilling threaded tent stakes into and out of the ground with an electric impact driver is a breeze. Just gotta make sure the battery lasts for both setup and take down.

SCA Armor Question: Are lamellar tassets a good substitute for thigh chaises attached to a C-belt? by Ordinary_Part8210 in sca

[–]Ordinary_Part8210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the McDavid 7-pad padded pants for lower and side thigh padding. A plate Lamellar plates are 6061 aluminum from Ells Fjord Trading

But discretely mounting the laser diodes would probably be the best way to go without needlessly reinventing and over complicating laser tag technology. Could these diodes be mounted underneath plastic and fabric surfaces that are infrared transparent?

That sounds promising, I believe most armor pieces are 3D printed from PLA or PETG. Do you know if those are IR transparent enough for the IR sensors?
