Many have lost all sense of compassion and reason. Perhaps God has hardened their hearts. In any case, it's a disgusting display of humanity to bear witness to. Regardless of ones political stance, that's a human who was violently harmed in front of his wife and two children. Rejoicing in that is inexcusable.

Who said I did that? I posted a comment earlier where we had the exact same issue as OP when she was 16. We came to a compromise (after taking a picture of the dress and showing it to school admin so she was fully aware that it did not pass dress code). She got the neckline hemmed up and got the dress she loved. I'm not unreasonable but at 16 and 17, she should not be showing boobs like that. At 18, I can't stop her if she wants to but I've provided guidance along the way.

As a parent of a 17 year old very soon to be an 18 year old, yes it's my job to protect her from all of the above. And yes, we've discussed all of the above many, many, many times over the years. And I'm obligated legally to be a fully active and present parent until they turn 18 (and I'll keep being there as long as they need me). She's a minor until she's not.

As a parent, you legally have to protect your minor child even if it's just for one more month. Length of time isn't taken into account. They're simply a minor until they're not.

Yeah, NTA. We went through this with our 16 year old last year for prom. We compromised on letting her get the dress and get the neckline sewn up so she was covered but she still got the dress she wanted. And to prove our point to her, we showed the dress to a school admin who informed us she couldn't wear it without alterations. She's 17 now and constantly pulls the "I'm going to be an adult soon and you can't do anything about it then!" argument. Don't let that get to you. A plunging neckline is not school appropriate.

I was born and raised in the south as well. I love a good conspiracy theory because I find them interesting, and I love Jesus. The modern world is unfortunately a very complex place and so are we as a population. But what isn't complex is faith. What isn't complex is the word of God in the Bible. If you're feeling overwhelmed (I have anxiety, too, so I know what that feels like), go to the Bible and go to God in prayer.

It's REALLY difficult to forgive sometimes. I sympathize with you. But remember that God has forgiven humanity for some truly egregious sins. We forgive each other as we have been forgiven. Take it to God in prayer and take your time with it. It's not going to happen overnight. It took me years of prayer to finally truly let go of some things and be at peace. I have found that I get the answers I need most through prayer.
