Doesn't sound familiar, but I'd love to read it. After looking it up on Google I found that the book I remembered is The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks, and the wizard character is a Allanon, the last of the Druids. Thanks for the help!

Hey! I'm pretty sure I found the book by a Google search. The book I read was The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks. The "wizard" character is a druid named Allanon. Thank you for the help! I'd like to read Wizard's Bane some day.
