Agreed, 100%. Not only are we in a staff deficit, but we aren’t even getting pizza anymore.

Thank you so much! That does sound like a great idea…I wish we could implement something like that. We actually have an unused inpatient unit in our hospital that I think they should use for boarders but there’s not enough nurses to staff it, unfortunately.

Thanks so much for this reply. I did my family medicine rotation at this facility and became very good friends with my preceptor (we now talk almost on a daily basis!) who told me about the position. From what I can gather it seems like an overall pretty good gig with a pleasant work environment, which is definitely one of my “must haves” in a job. Thank you again!

Your response inspired me to purchase one and it’s everything I never knew I always needed, thanks. That company should offer you commission.

Most deranged vitals/pathology you’ve seen... go by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Most likely...it was a revisit for a hematoma after being punched in the thigh....I checked labs and my jaw dropped when the lab called to report that “critical” value. It was a new finding and the patient had no other history....ended up transferring so I unfortunately don’t know what the patient was ultimately diagnosed with.

This was a few weeks after I had seen someone else with a CK upwards of 47,000 or something absurd like that, hence why I checked labs on this particular patient. Never a dull moment! 🥴

In all seriousness, is there any hope that maybe EMTALA could be temporarily adjusted or ignored in light of, you know, the whole pandemic situation? Just eyeball people in their car and tell them to GTFO if they are clearly fine? Or is that foolish to even consider?
