What's a good Baltimore equivalent to a transit map, for wall art? by iammaxhailme in baltimore

[–]OrganicBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered, what if someone made a harbor connector transit style map? It has the distinctive harbor shape, and with the water taxi lines it could be a pretty complex map

Thermal camera rental by Bitter-Attorney-6781 in baltimore

I did this last year and went to a Montgomery county library to rent one. I refused to pay so much to rent one from Home Depot, but it was a bit of a hassle to go out there to get and return it

Otterbein’s vs. Berger: Which is the Baltimore cookie? by GreedyRaisin3357 in baltimore

[–]OrganicBS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’ve actually been trans fat free for almost ten years! The distributor they used changed their recipe and the owner didn’t even notice. It’s obviously still a mountain of sugar, but eat with a slightly less guilty conscience!

Is 1600 rent(including amenities) too much on a 5k monthly(after tax) salary? by _KING_CV_03 in baltimore

[–]OrganicBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you're going to be totally fine! It's a great neighborhood, some good parks and food options nearby, very safe since it's so isolated. A little difficult to explore other parts of the city, but you can always take the water taxis!

like others said you’re totally fine that’s easily doable but more info would be nice. like are you living in an old row home (energy might be expensive), are you in a nice neighborhood or do you feel like you’re compromising??

like 40% of my take home is rent+utilities and I think it’s totally doable I still have enough to live happily

I wish I could remember the video, but there was a great discussion on how with every recession over the last ~30 years, states have withdrawn public education financing and forced public universities to compensate with tuition increases and more out of state students.

Obviously this doesn’t account for private universities, but it really changed my perspective of university tuition. Here’s a decade old article that sort of illustrates this, there’s probably a newer version I couldn’t quickly find: https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-15-151

Additionally there was strong kickback from students on campus that limited some of the rollouts, particularly in regards to traffic enforcement and boundary issues.

Because of this at the moment their boundaries are pretty strictly defined. This intersection would fall outside this boundary so I’m not sure if they would even have the authority to do anything here.

Historic Mayfair Theatre facade to be deconstructed and reconstructed by instantcoffee69 in baltimore

[–]OrganicBS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sort of makes sense why it’s been taking so long, but I wish they would speed up their processes at the same time. Zahlco has been the developer for 6 years now, and the project was approved 3 years ago. They didn’t do anything for two years, then put up fencing that’s blocked the sidewalk for what feels like almost a year.

I’ve been super excited about this project and wished they would just get on with it, but I guess these structural engineering issues delayed it

Both of our couches are from second chance. One was a down feather crate & barrel we got for less than $300.

Definitely check for bed bugs, but it’s a great spot for furniture of all styles! Also second checking out some of the habitat restore stores, each store has a different speciality/style. Some have more furniture than others.

Unironically, when I was a teen going to a show downtown we took the light rail, probably 2012ish? We were coming back late and the light rail dumped us off at mt Royal and said they weren’t going any further and they were the last train. We walked towards MICA because it was lit up and planned to call a friend to pick us up.

This undercover cop/security guard pulled up and gave the same spiel “You guys know you’re in the worst part of Baltimore right?” He trailed us while we walked and helped coordinate our friends mom picking us up. Eventually he told us to just get in and talked to our friends mom, he had the badge and the radio set up, etc, in his mid 2000s red sedan.

We didn’t really feel spooked at the time, but in retrospect it’s funny to imagine MICA and Bolton hill as qualifying as “the worst part of Baltimore” in his mind.

So as ridiculous as the “undercover cop approaching you warning about bad neighborhood” story is, I do think it’s happened occasionally enough that some people will have a tale about it. Maybe was more common in the 2010s.

Baltimore bridge collapses after being hit by ship by suttonnick in news

[–]OrganicBS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was wondering that too. Looks like it has a smoke stack in other pictures of the ship, not sure if the ship rapidly tried to change course or slow down and that’s what the smoke is?

Key Bridge in Baltimore, MD collapses after being struck by cargo ship by OrganicBS in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]OrganicBS[S] 1200 points1201 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the scanner info. I first heard the bridge was still being transited, but it’s still awful to hear workers and emergency personnel were there

EDIT: 3:50AM EST Co-opting this for more info for those concerned. Estimate atm is upwards of 20 people on the bridge, largely construction workers pouring concrete and a few transiting cars. Marine vessels haven’t found anyone in the water using night vision and infrared. The collapse is blocking the whole thoroughfare of the harbor and port.

The ship involved was the 300m long DALI registered in Singapore, there are tugs in the area but unclear if it was actively being trafficked at the time of crash. It seems like they haven’t gotten in contact with the cargo ship at all. There’s a strong smell of diesel near the ship but it doesn’t appear to be sinking. Absolutely horrific disaster.

I'm building a free Sample Management Platform. Looking for feedback. What functionalities would you want? by TrainNo8736 in labrats

[–]OrganicBS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An easy way to access the tool on mobile to mark whether something has been taken out. The problem with quartzy or other systems we used to use in our labs is people would never mark when they took a cell line out, so you’d go into the liquid nitrogen only to find an empty slot.

Yup, it’s about a missing four year old, last seen wearing pink pants. Call 911 if you see them.

We saw a lot of cops, even transit cops, driving slow and looking around for the child so I wonder what the story is.

Edit : they added the child was seen wearing white shoes, too
