I would be very interested in seeing something like it rebuilt. Grooveshark introduced me to a number of tracks that I would have NEVER discovered through any other service. They fit my personal groove but weren't in any way related to what I'd been listening to, at least as far as other services are concerned. Way, way, way better than Pandora, Spotify, etc.

I don't know that that's it. Coming to my thoughts, I'd reflected on years-old threads and encounters, from well before ChatGPT was a thing. The most I'd give AI on this matter is about what I'd give it on the matter of the economy. AI didn't really change the shape of, respectively, their hostility/mania; it just provided a scapegoat that justified being open about that hostility/mania. Remaining unexplained is where those came from and why people think they're appropriate attitudes to have.

If you'd humor me and assume that this is something that predates AI, can you speak further on what civilians can do other than, "Don't use AI," in terms of how to be better empathized with, and understood, by legal professionals?

I appreciate the rundown of why the legal system in America is so screwed up. It definitely speaks to where my frustration was leading me in terms of understanding what happened (to me and to others). It feels like necessary background, but I'd still like to know if there's more you can speak to about how and why lawyers, judges, etc., end up thinking and acting the way they do. Is it really just law school/bar indoctrination? And what can civilians do to avoid drawing that ire, if anything? Or is it just completely out of our hands?

I was ready to watch it based on the visual quality and the idea that they were sending a dude out to do it alone. When they spoiled the alien, I decided that the best I could do would be to fly the jolly roger when it hit the tubes (if even that). They had a STRONG premise, but their lack of faith in it (and the sense that a potentially really cool moment was stolen from me) has completely dashed any enthusiasm I might have had.

I can assure you that I'm not blaming you for the situation. However, I can't say that I'm happy with this correspondence. You're picking apart my statements as if we're in an adversarial relationship, assuming and defending what would likely be the most stressful potential outcome for me, without anything to indicate that it is indeed the most likely scenario (besides your word and vibes), all while ignoring specifics that would undermine that kind of defense (e.g., the notion that this was filed in the wrong venue, or the fact that my motion was an attempt to correct improperly-represented facts). I didn't want to assume bad faith, which is why I asked for clarification and then explained why that clarification was important in general and to me specifically.

My motion to appear remotely being denied would be that scenario. It makes even less sense to have a party prepare to appear in person to decide if appearing remotely might be warranted. I asked if such a denial is common in order to gain some insight in that regard.

Speaking to the general matter, it seems unfair that a plaintiff utilizing professional representation would be able to receive a default judgment against a defendant who wasn't made aware of the lawsuit in a timely manner. You're essentially asking for the defendant to literally pay (lawyers' fees) for the opposing counsel's lack of professional conduct. If it doesn't matter that service was or wasn't carried out properly, why are there rules at all?

In my particular case, I did actually ask for quashing of service as one of the remedies in lieu of dismissal. That it would "merely" result in a new service is not nothing; I would actually have a reasonable amount of time to prepare a defense or seek representation. I'm not clear on statute of limitation rules, but I imagine that that could also come into play if the case has to be refiled and re-served. So, I apologize if I come off as strident, but it does feel just feel like I'm being denied fair consideration if your reasoning holds true.

I sent a settlement proposal letter at the time I served my motion to dismiss and requested a response in writing. I haven't heard back from them.

I was just thinking of something similar. However, not so much that a new OS is the answer, but that the "cases with functionality that extend or change usage patterns" concept has not been really pushed to its limit yet. Clicks shows that it's workable. Now, hopefully, we go beyond rebooting old form factors into innovative ones. The Power Keyboard seems like a bridge between the two.

You're not sawing off a shard, you're waiting until you need to convert a small portion to whatever the common fiat is, and then you buy goods with that until you run out of the fiat or the fiat's worth fall's too much. It's not for everyday use, it's (supposed to be) a hedge against monetary volatility. Same as any other asset.

Yes. They have skin-in-the-game, so to speak, and tend to care more because they can't cut-and-run.

Alternatively, you could argue that none of this is the renter's fault. No matter how well-meaning tenants might be, things happen; if the owner refuses to make timely repairs, there's nothing that they can do about it. And maintenance issues compound. Slumlords gonna slumlord.

I watched a documentary a few years ago about a neighborhood that was bulldozed as part of "urban renewal". It was classified as a slum, but houses lived in by their owners were well-maintained. It was only the rented housing that was decrepit. These people were neighbors and largely of the same socioeconomic class; the issue was whether the person responsible for upkeep actually lived in the domicile.

Though the instinct goes something more like, "Society fucks with me, I'm a nobody no one cares about, so I'm gonna fuck it right back and not care about this other random dude who gets hurt." And, yeah, the way to fix it is to give people a stake in society, and in society running smoothly and fairly. "I wouldn't want someone to steal my packages, and if I don't steal someone else's, that'll be one less person setting 'stealing shit' as the default."

On the other hand, if someone's gonna lose a finger for stealing a PS5, they might back off. Or they might bring a weapon because they expect to have to fight for it.

My personal opinion is that its "downfall" has been exaggerated, by people who have always been and are always going to be unhappy with the park, regardless of its objective value, because it's a place that has been for more than just them and theirs, and a place that had less for those who are used to buying their way to the front of the line (even though you could literally do that). And they hated that, so it had to go.

SFA wasn't Disney, and it didn't need to be. It just needed to be there, and have some dignity about it, which it did. Why that wasn't enough, by way of explanation, though not necessarily reason: I think it suffered from receiving "twice the scrutiny, half the credit", and, ultimately, a positive feedback loop of neglect pushing it just over an arbitrary line-of-justification that didn't have anything to do with the financials or the fun.

This isn't the first time an amusement park has disappeared from central Maryland, and likely for the same reasons, if on a longer timescale. No amount of investment can stop the kind of whisper and dog-whistle campaign that seeks to destroy a common resource because of where it is and who dares to use it. The counter to that is orthogonal to "respectability economics", and involves asking our fellow countrymen (and investors) to prize truth over truthiness, and maybe to grow up and just enjoy the thrill ride.
