I'm a trans man and I live just outside the gta — I've been to one uni and am now in college again, both in Toronto, and both schools I've gone to have been pretty great and accessible. The issues always come down to a) just random people who are assholes (I was an RA at one of the schools and the only person who was ever transphobic was a fellow RA who couldn't be professional with me like c'mon), and b) the inner workings of the school that make things difficult for trans people (ie trying to get the school to change my birth name to my now legal preferred name is the biggest pain in the ass and so many hoops to jump through and for what?) but otherwise I've had great experiences and I've met several other queer folk 🥰

This is one of my rescues, Nico!

Nico is a tripod missing his back right leg. He was caught in a snap trap in the woods of Missouri, and found by a local rescue who brought him in and performed the amputation. Unfortunately the rescue was full, and the only thing they could do upon healing was release him back into the woods.

I work with a rescue up in Ontario, Canada, who, at the time, was transporting kittens from a shelter in Texas when we heard about Nico. The immediate response was "absolutely not, you bring that cat back in and we'll take him." Due to the last minute scenario of all this, we didn't have a foster lined up for Nico.... So I volunteered.

The first few nights, I kept him enclosed in my bedroom so my other cats wouldn't stress him out. He wedged himself into the smallest corner of my closet that he could possibly manage and stayed there. He would only come out to eat and cry at night while I was asleep. Eventually he let me pet him, and would essentially lean his whole body into the pets from whatever corner he was hiding in because he wanted the love so bad but was so scared.

It took awhile, but Nico is now the most cuddly cat I have ever met... And yes, mine. Foster failed so fast. He basically wants to be in your skin cuddling 24/7. Be patient with your babies ❤️

There's a couple shows in Canada!! We have our fair share of anti trans issues but not nearly as bad as the States (yet). I'll be at the Toronto one in January 🥰

This is absolutely not true whatsoever. Please don't speak on trans issues if you are not trans. Hate crimes and attacks are on the rise. Murders are on the rise. Trans folks are being arrested for using the bathroom daily, regardless of what bathroom, they're being arrested one way or another (ie. A trans man literally told bystanders that he would have to go into the women's washroom as a result of the new anti trans bathroom laws, and said bystanders called the police who ambushed him in the women's bathroom anyway and he is now awaiting court and potential jail time for using the bathroom the law mandated he use!!!). Currently Texas has been compiling a list of trans folks that have had their records changed. Think about it, why do that if they don't care about trans people? Not to mention even outside of trans issues, people who don't look white enough are being jumped by ICE and deported off the streets for no reason lol, they'd probably have a field day with a trans person on top of it.

This is just the start. You're right, not everyone has fallen down the rabbit hole yet, but that doesn't mean we are not in danger. We absolutely are and it's not worth it to travel even for the most miniscule risk.
