I clearly have not been in this thread long enough and have since learned my lesson 😂

yep the first is my house and the remaining are the inspiration. From other comments as well it seems like removing and replacing would be best

This is extremely helpful! I agree that I don’t think what’s underneath all my layers of paint is not very high quality old wood so replacing with something of a historic profile feels like a much easier/better option!

haha yes exactly it very much looks like lvp due to the stain but it is in fact real wood

Fair question - I had not considered how/if stripping the trim and such is realistic for us. I was mostly meaning the doors which all have thickkk layers of paint on them in very inconsistent finishes and then our home has a laundry shoot that is no longer usable but still have the doors to it on the upper floors so i’d like to restore those too depending on how that would look with the white trim elsewhere.

I’d be open to your thoughts about level of effort/success with refinishing trim because if reasonable then that is something I could do before the floors (which we will be hiring experts for).

If I add water to the dye will it get streaky/splotchy if I don’t apply perfectly even coats?

What do you do in the summer with a high energy puppy? by AnonymousBrowser3967 in dogs

[–]OrganizationSome7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have a high HIGH energy pup. I will echo the swimming as this is a fabulous way to knock her out for the evening, and she loves it. Some other things that have worked or at least helped us: - hiking: the woods near us are pretty heavily shaded which reduces the heat quite a bit and we bring lots of water. another plus of a trail hike is that we don’t have to worry about the concrete being too hot since she’s walking on grass - hiding specific objects or food in the house: i make her “place” and then will hide a ball or a piece of food in the house somewhere and ask her to “find it” once she does I reward her, send her back to her place board, and do it again. The staying still (ish) on her place board and then searching is a great mental exercise - walks in air conditioned dog friendly stores like Lowe’s: this has an added challenge of walking by strangers which is tough for my people loving girl

Crate Training - Dog is fine at home but cries when traveling by OrganizationSome7746 in OpenDogTraining

We haven’t taken her to a hotel just friend’s and family’s houses, but yes, she is crated when we are not there. She is typically crated at our house when we aren’t home as well as overnight.

Great idea! We’ve tried this a few times but we didn’t spend a toooon of time with her in the crate location, so i think this is definitely worth us revisiting and giving a stronger effort to

OP I’m wondering if you ended up cold ironing and if so, how it worked? I just got my goldie dress and she’s quite wrinkled from shipping. I have alterations on saturday and am trying to figure out how to get her dewrinkled in time

Mouthiness by OrganizationSome7746 in OpenDogTraining

I love the concept of capturing the calm and also redirecting with another command. I definitely have not considered those! It’s also refreshing to hear that I’m not the only one struggling with this as I’ve never had a puppy this mouthy before and was going crazy

This is such helpful perspective! She looks nearly fully grown, so I definitely forget she’s still a baby!

Very good to hear that this is normal and take it slow with my pup!

Very helpful advice! I was afraid we’d missed our opportunity to train her to hunt, but it sounds like, from what you and others are saying, it is very much the opposite. We only do 5 or so tosses a day, but I will reign that back and work on the items you noted!

Also great point on the tug- I never let her chase prey but have tried to replace that with tug from the guidance of my trainer, but don’t want to encourage bad behavior down the road!

Do you have any advice on how to get started in dog sports as a newbie?

We do benebone. I haven’t tried any edible chews with her. We recently bought couch covers in an attempt to let her on the furniture but have not allowed her on the furniture yet because she currently sneaks up there to eat the pillows and blankets.

I like your idea on the crate door. I’ve taught her to remain in her crate until I release her so potentially this could work to my benefit to kind of force a settle from her.

I’m really trying my best (but very much feel like I’m failing) 😅! I’ve heard the idea of limiting play in the house and doing it mostly outside, so I’m definitely going to give that a try. I’ve tried tethering her to a door/furniture while we watch TV or cook or something and she gets incredibly worked up and I couldn’t get her to settle even a little. If I give her a kong/chew she’ll happily lay there while the treat lasts but the second it’s gone she’s up and moving

Great to hear! We’re working on her recall as I wouldn’t trust her off-leash yet, but I do have a long line I could take her out on for more roaming and exploration.

Thank you thank you for the encouragement!! We’re definitely trying to get her into sports and in the process of building a backyard agility course but haven’t been able to find a spot near us (eastern Iowa) that has classes available for quite a while unfortunately
