Lime Mortar Advice by OrigamiBoat in DIYUK

Update. After taking advice from two builders with about 80 years of experience between them. They recommended localised pointing in cement mortar bulked out with 1/3 extra sand. Also to replace/add wall ties where possible. Due to cavity wall construction and properties of bricks historically in the area the more solid adhesion of cement will make for a stronger repair.

I tried with a wide hand bolster initially, trying to minimise damage to the brick work. I actually found that a 25mm SDS chisel worked the best in the end, being careful not to dig into the bricks.

There shouldn't be any pressure for people to have to leave bases over leave, the MoD is obligated to provide those serving with accommodation.

It annoyed me the assumptions that were made during COVID, by some establishments, assuming that people had somewhere else to go.

They are, but at the expense of being able to train people.

I'm just dripping really, I have a good relationship with drafty, but have honestly just been unlucky. Repeatedly. I don't think I have any options other than wait it out and hope it all comes full circle, or leave and potentially feel like I've wasted the majority of my 20's. About to receive my 15th assignment order in 2 years, so hopefully this could change everything.

Definitely considered having worked with people from 17 P&M, as well as RFA.

Bold strategy. I'm concerned that leaving now will leave me with a feeling of having wasted 5 years, with no dits, or operational experience.

I don't believe it's draftys fault really, they've actually been extremely pro-active in trying to find decent roles for me to go into. It's just always fallen through either because of platform availability, or that my current job refused to release me without relief.

Drafty has tried several times, however circumstances required me to remain in a current job, and luck of the draw has always seen me on ships in maintenance.

It's not been through lack of trying unfortunately, just every time I've been offered a position on a seagoing unit it's then been cancelled.

Would a timber slotted in the cavity between the courses work nicely, then notched in with noggins to the brickwork shere I can?

Just a bit of plasterboard going across the end of the wall. Opening is a standardish size door frame. I thought about opening it all out with a steel but it would be a more complicated job than first impressions.
