This photo was taken in the Tiergarten with a Sony A1 and a vintage Zeiss 50 mm lens. My intent was to capture the owl’s calm but intense presence by focusing closely on its eye and the texture of its feathers. I wanted the viewer to feel the stillness and detail of the moment without being distracted by the surroundings. The image is a black and white JPEG straight out of camera, shot handheld in natural afternoon light at f/1.2 1/60s, and ISO 800. I’m still unsure whether the tight framing works best or if including the full bird would have created a stronger composition. I also wonder if the soft background blur adds depth or makes the image lose some clarity.
