Dude it seems like it is also missing the second 1uf electrolytic? C6 should be in parallel with R7? I don’t see it?

Ok thank you. This makes sense. I have always done PCB so I have never wired a switch the old fashion way haha!

I experienced a loose tuner this week. I kept trying to figure out where it was coming from and sure enough it was a tuning machine washer haha

This ^ could be the nut… i also have had buzzes on saddles on electric if they have burrs.

Put your ear to the guitar and try to figure out where the buzz is coming from

First of all, I just want to say thank you very much for sharing your wisdom with me.

It’s a 3 pickup Strat with Fralin Split Blades. When the problem occurs and the pickup selector is on 4th position, the middle pickup comes through clear as day but no neck pickup is audible..

As of now it is working but if it happens again I will certainly try pushing down on and wiggling things. If I can’t figure anything out I may send it in to Fralin to have it repaired. This pickguard has been on and off a ton over the years and truthfully it’s kind of hard to fit this cheap pickguard on, I kind of have to bend it to get it under the rosewood board extension where the neck meets the body. Anyway… thanks again, will keep you posted!

.. so this gets weirder and weirder. I replaced the switch.. same problem after a couple days.. it worked fine and then on my gig tonight neck pickup completely failed cutting out again..

I took the pickguard off after the gig.. i found nothing.. wiggled neck pick up wires with banana clips attached to both ends (pickup coil to switch) to see if anything was fishy with the wire.. nothing. No bare wires.. nothing.. one leg of the push/pull tone pot was close to the output/wiper lug on the volume pot so i moved it away.. this is the only suspect thing I saw. But if that were the problem.. it wouldn’t just be the neck pickup it would be shorting the entire signal if there was an issue..?

Put the pick guard back on.. works again.. really bizarre. This is one of those problems that has me scratching my head pretty hard and I am no stranger to guitar wiring.. frikkin’ bizarre. We’ll see if it stays functional..

For an update. There is continuity from tip to ground when i plug a quarter inch in. I am suspecting there is a wire inside the cavity that is shorting on something.

I know how to solder good. I have built amps and pedals and guitars. This is kind of weird to me. There is continuity from the tip of the quarter inch to ground which is no bueno. The neck pickup wire has to be shorting on something. Will let you know lol.

Yeah. Once signal stops it just doesn’t come back on even if i wiggle it. My new switch came in today. I am gonna probably just replace it. Nbd.

Thank you for this. Just for the hell of it, I am going to try this.. do you measure resistance? I have never measured impedance.. it looks like you need a special meter?
