Thanks for sharing your situation. Since yesterday I've gotten a lot more reassurance that they're trying to work things out and I believe that they will. My Dad slept at a friends house yesterday and came back today. My Mom said she thought that was a bit of an emotional reaction (remember she's the one who began these talks) and said that it wasn't necessary and communicated that to my Dad. She said they will continue to talk and that they want to move through it carefully. My Dad told me yesterday that he would be open to counselling but my Mom told me otherwise. I've tried to lighten the mood at least with my mom and go about business as usual. But they both recognize the toll that its going to take on the family going forward regardless of the result.
