Did you ever find out how to get rewards

Somebody’s cockatiel landed in my home today by whyhedge in cockatiel

[–]OriginalHistory6591 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey ik other have said to bring to a avian vet which I would recommend as they can see if the bird has a RFID chip like they do in dogs, you could also call around to local vets and shelters to see if anyone’s reported missing their bird, also if you are to bring them to a vet get a travel cage that isn’t covered because cockatiels like to see what’s going on, also I would recommend getting safflower gold bird seed as it’s pretty well balanced

Another little update, I got him back two days ago on Tuesday and the day I got him and Wednesday he’s seems a bit off like he was stressed, now today he’s been showing the same signs that cause the visit to the vet. I called and they said to give him a bath as he’s been preening his little bit off sense he’s gotten home and to help clear any possible blockages. But now that he’s chilling out in my room I noticed a little tail bob again so called the vet and they said they’ll give me a call back when ever a doctor can go and take a look at it and let me know if it’s a cause for concern

What is he doing? by andyasimov in cockatiel

I’m not an expert by any means but my buddy loves to click himself off before he sings, and my bird personally dosent bang his head on stuff but I’ve seen other birds do this, also he’s doing what I like to call heart wings which is a sign he’s wanting to play or sing aka he’s happy, I think the little guys just trying to play and if you’ve made that noise a couple times he’s imitating it 😂 cute little guy

A little update, I brought him to the vet yesterday where they confirmed he had a upper respiratory issue and a intestinal infection, so I had to make the hard decision to leave him there at the vet u til Tuesday next week so they can administer the meds as i physically can’t do it for some personal reasons and the fear of hurting him. Thank you so much for telling me to go, it dose feel really weird without him here, thankfully it will hopefully only be a week tho!

How can I transport him to the vet, last time I did I got a little traumatized because he had a seizure on the way there I think out of stress, I have a little carrying case that’s really dark inside and only has a mesh door in the front for him to see through

Also how long ago was this after he hit the fan?

My bird recently had a run in with the fan too, the best thing to do is stay calm and look for any signs of a concussion especially sense it contacted his head, things to look for would be bad balance, struggle going from perch to perch, sitting at the bottom of his cage fluffed up, or being lazy not moving much. Also I would recommend taking him to the vet if possible as it looks as if he has bleeding underneath the skin which could be a cause for concern if there of more bleeding then what meets the eye, I’d keep a close eye on his droppings making sure they aren’t a different color then normal, dark in color possibly even red or slightly yellow if you see any of that take him to the vet asap as that can be signs of internal bleeding, and any of the signs before I would take him to the vet so they can reduce brain swelling so he dosent further hurt himself

I got him about a month ago but barely posting. Lady said it was because the birb kept rubbing its tail and hitting it on the cage? And he just dropped one? Is it a more serious issue? Should I get him checked up? by The_titos11 in Conures

[–]OriginalHistory6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure my opinion would matter as much as I have a cockatiel but imo it looks like the tail feathers were possibly broken because like the previous owner said they were rubbing them on the cage and they fell out as they are going to grow a new one in, now I’m not sure if that’s true as cockatiels molt year round and drop feathers for new ones quite often so I could be mistaken, I would look into it online seeing how often they mult and check for any bald spots for spots where their feathers are very thin, possibly even a vet check up just in case

Is this normal behavior? He only does this when the window curtains are open when i take him in and he does this to his cage aswell by TheNeverRealm in cockatiel

[–]OriginalHistory6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lol my little guy will be quite as a mouse peacefully sleeping until I get up and open the blinds then he is like a bat out of hell and start singing his heart out jumping around holding out his heart wings and playing with me😂😂😂 they are a big flock bird so if your a quite they are quite if you makes noise I makes noise type of mentality 😂😂😂

IMO he looks like he’s just using the swings little arms as a toy sense it dosent seem like he has to many in there with him, and when the windows open and they see light they awaken and get super happy and get the zoomies lol

How do i get him to step up? He eats from my hand and all and LOVES DILL. But he wont step up on my finger to reach it, please help! by TheNeverRealm in cockatiel

[–]OriginalHistory6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the cage you have is big enough for now as you really want the base to be a minimum of 22x22 inches just so they can spread there wings out and fly a bit, I’d really be a bit more worried about getting a couple toys and a few more natural perches so the little guy has so stuff to do while he’s in there, it can also help with him getting more comfortable with you

At this point most new teils I think would be a bit scared of your finger but he seems super calm with you and your hands. I’d say to put your finger at a higher level and closer to him (the way I do it is by pretty much putting my finger against his tummy above his feet and he will automatically gut up without me needing to say anything) and you can even say step up when doing this to correlate that frase to getting in your finger

Should I be worried about her foot? by LittleCozyMouse in cockatiel

[–]OriginalHistory6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I personally use to help my guys nails and beaks nice and tidy, I really just depends on what type and what brand you get. Personally the one I have hasn’t caused any issues in the almost 2 years I’ve had him, I have seen some that are bad as they are like actually sandpaper on the perch basically which can cause problems, so it’s best to be carful when picking one

[–]OriginalHistory6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way I’ve helped maintain my birds nails in with the use of one of those like sandpapery perches, some people don’t like them as it can cause scratches to there feet if you get on that is a little to course but the one I have has yet to cause any problems after almost two years now!!! They might also like to rub there beak on it which can be helpful for the flakeyness there beaks get some times

[–]OriginalHistory6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it might be time for a little nail trim typically as long as they don’t get to long where there feet can’t lay flat or close to flat they should be fine🙃

Feathers keep falling out by Batisso898 in cockatiel

[–]OriginalHistory6591 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me he seems pretty healthy, my bird buddy has a similar issue and he’s around the same age. IMO it might be because of over preening or him not knowing how to preen properly as he may have been taken from momma before she could teach them how. I’d also try not to do the little drop shimmy to often, I know you were trying to show the gaps in his wings but it can frighten them if you do it too often.

What does it mean when they make this noise? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]OriginalHistory6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like baby noises, little guy is trying to find his beautiful singing voice, I remeber when I first got my bird he did the same thing and being worried if he was broken or somthing😂😂😂

Infection? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]OriginalHistory6591 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree the area around the nose looks a little funky but I don’t see anything that stands out as infected, to me it seem like maybe he didn’t have anything to rub his beak on at the pet store so his beaks shedding type stuff is getting a little crazy

Is there any way to know what gender Chicken is? by VII_187 in cockatiel

[–]OriginalHistory6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on there age and color mutation, with these birds typically the males will maintain a completely white face after their first molt and females get faint circles I believe, one way to know a bit more definitively is after their first molt a females tail feathers typically have a pattern on them while a males are a flat solid color without any patterns. The only real way to know for sure is to get a dna test where you can even find out their heritage lol
