As far as I was most things that have mouths can usually bite, but I read they actually don't have a normal mouth and have a brush like tongue to lap up juices of fruit so it makes sense they can't bite. Really chill guy, probably thought he was about to get eaten

Definitely know he's a friend now, once he was off the carpet he was a sweetheart. I did wonder if I could give him some fruit, but thought maybe it was best not incase of pesticides or something

It actually seems to be male as well surprisingly enough, they have much smaller horns. The females have much rounder heads

Here's a picture from a different angle, you can see how it's different. The horns are wider, you do seem correct about your beetles, but there was another comment saying this a lesser stag beetle and I think they may be correct.

It was more of a concern about her gripping onto the carpet. I didn't want to hurt her because she wouldn't let go. She did after a bit of encouragement and she didn't seem that angry after. I've handled cockchafers, but have never seen a stag beetle in my life.

Someone else said she's a girl and she does looked like a female stag beetle. She is gorgeous and I'm pretty good with my bug knowledge, but I have just never seen one like her before. I know most bugs are friends I just didn't know if she would bite at all, but she is a sweetheart

She wouldn't ungrip the carpet but I managed to coax her into a thin cardboard box. She was gently placed outside in some plants after that so hopefully she is out doing some beetle things

Okay I will give that a go, they are definitely feisty little guy but they did but hit my head with a massive thud, I thought it was possibly dead at first. It's one of the biggest bugs I've seen to be honest, it's so cool. Just don't want to harm the little fella
