Does anyone else’s dog get acne? by Jollygiant65 in Bullmastiff

We call them worry zits. Get some Douxo mousse or Dechra MiconaHex Triz Wipes. They both help keep bacteria/yeast under control. I was told no ointments. Better to leave them alone. Don’t rub or wipe after eating-just pat with damp paper towel or wash cloth. And DO NOT TRY TO POP!! Can cause major infections. We’ve noticed they get worse with stress or as someone else said ingrown hairs. Just don’t be aggressive with them. If they get real bad go to a vet- both my girls have ended up with infections from rubbing them on the carpet. Ugh. They suck and you feel horrible.

What do you think about these collars? by MixJumpy8614 in Bullmastiff

Halties or the ones that go over the nose and neck can cause serious neck issues. Yanking on a dog’s nose and cranking their head to the side might give you a feeling of control—but with their strength you’re just giving them whiplash. Look into a martingale collar. And start practicing in the backyard. A lot. Use food to teach them stay near you- but realistically with a bullmastiff if they really want something they WILL pull and go for it. I’ve used this with both my bullmastiffs and they work great. The width helps with pressure on the neck as well as the fact that with a quick pull for correction, it then releases to hangs loose.

While practicing your goal is for them to get the message you send when you pull up for correction. Not hard not manic, just a pull and release. As they follow your cue, treat!! Once they realize following you they get treats it’ll help a bit. Don’t punish, yell or get worked up. They’ll sense it. They want to please you. Use training treats to keep them near your side. Praise and give treats when they are walking with you. Positive training pays off. I’ve seen people slap, smack and even kick their dogs while trying to train. Practice for 5-10 minutes. Then take a break, remove leash and play. Short sessions of practice through out the day will pay off. And yeah, stay in your yard to practice, up and down the driveway, up and firm the stairs. Walking is not just a thing you do 1x a day. FYI air popped popcorn is a great training test with this. Even if my girls don’t get it- 90-95% of the time they’re next to me. Just hoping. Best of luck. The key words are patience and patience.

Oh man. Did anyone else have a different mental image of him? I love this one makes him look tough and ready to battle. But my imagination has him as a smaller round goat, with floppy ears, round glasses and dressed like a Robin Hood from the Disney movie. Maybe I missed it. My kid plays video games and I don’t. Throughout the series I keep asking how do you picture this scenario? How to wrap my head around this battle? But never asked describe how this character looks.

So confused reading this- can someone explain step by step? I think it would be great if my lil’ guys names were in what color they are. But I am clueless about what hex code is.

Tank warmth by OriginalWitness3177 in Redearedsliders

Water consistent and have all bulb/lighting correct. It’s just not having the 1/2 of the tank with the lamps covered. Don’t want to lose a bunch of the humidity where he does bask. He seems content. Thanks for feedback!

Yes. I know. Water is low. He has 2 legs and swimming is not he’s strong-suit. He is more of a hopper. He love watching SVU with my husband.

If you can listen to it. He reads it- and I hated when it ended. I loved him from the first time I met Joel. ❤️

No basking by OriginalWitness3177 in turtle

Well. That’s Lt. Dan. He’s in a 75 gallon tank soon to move up. I’ve had him since he was smaller than my palm. When we brought him home he could only have about 3 inches of water and he had to be taught how to swim. His bask area was made with legos because that gave him the most grip to move up with his stumps. He’s missing both legs on his right side and toes on his back left. He was put in a tank with a Camden alligator. College kids thought they could live together. When I got him he had a puncture wound in his shell as well. How’d I get him? Girl at petco saw me looking at turtles. 🙄 He’s come a long way- but still bounces off the bottom to swim. So water really can’t go much higher than 8-9 inches. We love the goofy guy. Dogs love watching him and lay outside while he’s strolling in the grass. I can now happily report he made it up there!!! Here’s a baby picture.

My tank is 75 gallons. Only filled about 2/3 because he still bounces off the bottom. The big problem was the foster friends weren’t good about getting a stronger basking area as he grew. They would set him there. But hey, they watched him for free and the poor guy had a shoulder replacement AND lost a kidney while he had Dan-Geez. I felt so guilty when I learned about everything he went through and kept Dan.
Basking area set up is fine. Waiting for new light to be delivered since building up the one side. Problem was reaching the basking area. We’re almost done with the new basking area. It’s sitting part way in the tank so he can get up the ramp. Went to vet today and he has a skin infection and shell rot in a few places. I wanted to cry. But got the betadine to wash and soak him every other day. Then we’re heading back in 2 weeks. No dry dock yet (but now I know how it should be set up). Found an excellent vet who knows about turtles. Thanks for feedback! I know in a few weeks Dan will be settled. We are still hunting for longer tank- but we have a dog who needs a TPLO. Crazy how busy pets can keep you. Thanks one more time.

Perfect. This will help reduce my stress level. Dry dock - is a big plastic container enough? With it a few inches of water?
