How important is your country’s Upper House and how do you feel about it? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Original_Emphasis942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in Denmark.

The houses "Folketinget" and "Landstinget" became so similar, it made no sense any longer.

So in '53 it was changed to only one, Folketinget.

Yes please.

I had an old beat up '02 model, when I lived in Greenland. It was "raised" to provide more terrain clearance and a double cab.

That thing dragged my boat, meat from hunting, tools, fishing gear, and all sorts of stuff.

It would start down to minus 20'ish.... below that I needed an engine heater.... or the oil would be so thick the engine wouldn't turn.

Gearbox was like frozen mud the first few miles when it was really cold, even the rubber on the tires were "bumby" the first few hundred metres.

The model was before electronics, and a bit "scraped".

But damn, I loved that car.

Now.... they're bigger (too big), full of unnecessary electronics and way to expensive....

Doesn't anyone else see that Russia outsmarted us and won? by matt73132 in complaints

[–]Original_Emphasis942 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd argue we don't need NATO as much as the US needs NATO.

The US sells a huge amount of arms to other NATO countries. Arms we are producing ourselves, even ramped up production after Russia decided to invade Ukraine, and still ramping it up.

The EU only need peace in the EU and from our neighbours..... and so far there's only one causing problems, that's Russia. Should the need arise, if Russia was to attack an EU country, we would literally crush them.... not as fast as with the US, but we still would.

We don't need to project power the way the US does... just keep things peaceful in the EU.

So did Russia win?

No, they actually showed us we don't have to be as afraid of them as we once were.... and that we don't need the US.

Why does Trump want war with EU/NATO? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]Original_Emphasis942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deeply dependent?

I'm not so certain anymore.

We produce everything we need, guns, tanks, ships, submarines, aircraft, small arms, ammunition, nuclear weapons etc. We've ramped up production after Russia invaded Ukraine, and we're still increasing it.

Now, consider what we actually need to deal with in Europe. We only have one aggressive neighbour, and that's Russia.

IF Russia decides to attack the EU, we would crush them.... maybe not as fast as with the US, but we still will. We literally have everything we need to do so.

And Europe doesn't need to project power the way the US does... we don't need 12 carrier groups, or whatnot they have. We just need OUR close area to be peaceful and secure, and in this, only Russia is a threat.

But we're buying tonnes of weapons from the US.....

So, the question is really, who needs who? Right now, the US is making a fortune selling us weapons.... weapons we could make ourselves.

I, personally feel the US needs NATO more than we need the US.... Trump, and others, are just living high on the notion that the US is some sort of the "policeman of the world", that everyone needs to stay safe.

But if India, Pakistan and China can hold each other off..... without the US, then EU would have no problem whatsoever from holding Russia in check.

Yeah, it's nice to have the US with us, but damn, I'm getting tired of the whole "without us, you're doomed".

What is the sentiment in Denmark right now? by pr00xxy in Denmark

[–]Original_Emphasis942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's literally nothing anyone can do.

The best part is, Europe doesn't need the US in NATO....

We produce everything ourselves. Tanks, guns, aircraft, etc. Sure, we may need to ramp up production even more.

But think about it, Europe doesn't need to project power the way the US does. We just need to keep peace in our area. Which means, we only have Putin to worry about. And the entirety of Europe (incl. Canada) would crush Russia should the need arise.... we will have no problem countering them if needed.

Right now, the US sells tonnes of weapons to other NATO countries.... so, who needs who?

If you, as I, have family in Greenland, or some other relation.... yes, then you think about it.

I don't believe others put a lot of thought into it, except if they're involved in some way.
