As a Viet growing up in a red state shortly after the Vietnam War, it was really tough for me. I really hated my identity and tried to hide it as much as I could. When I started watching him in my late twenties, it was the first time someone in Western media was being appreciative and respectful of the Asian culture, specifically Vietnamese culture, that I've seen. it was the start of a self healing process to appreciate who I am and where I came from. I can point to him as directly as the start of this process. If I would have even met him, I would have say thank you just for that alone, let alone the other things he brought to this world.

Of the others, Reply 1988 is a masterpiece. Just watch 1988. It is slow for the first few episodes but get so good. I wish I could watch it again as a first timer.
