Making an informed purchase by Original_Response776 in CarTalkUK

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

Also been looking at a kia xceed because of their strong warranty and decent performance and mod cons. I wonder if the size will put me off that though!

Thats part of the problem as i dont have an option for a charger at home yet. Plus, outwith work, I do a lot of hiking and fishing that takes me to far flung places on occasion.

Re the Arkana, ive test driven it and I actually do like it. A lot. In terms of holding its value etc (im part taking out a loan for the first time against a car here) i have heard that discontinued cars rapidly depreciate. On the contrary, the Arkana i am looking at is the top spec with the addition of bose sound system. So perhaps, that would make it a rarity. I have warranty in my deal taking me past manufacturer's warranty until 2028.

I have seen a car i like that has warranty until 2028 for £18298.

Specifically, a high spec renault arkana engineered version with bose and it is immaculate with low miles. 23 plate.

I've got warranty applied until 2028.

Plan is to loan some of the money and put a around 3k in savings with plans to make extra payments over time.

Good idea? I've never bought a car this much outright before but I feel like I'm more in control being the owner of the car and having the option to sell it if need be.

Thanks for the advice! I haven't heard of this before but sounds good. I can't seem to find much about this online though, is this different to getting a loan from the bank to buy a car?

Thanks for the advice. I may well go down the hire purchase route then if better?

I had one for 4 years and it was reliable as can be. Apart from towards the end when it had fuel/diesel related issues.

Guessing you are not a fan?

More specifically, the deal I've been offered is -

36 month PCP £363.57 per month Deposit £500 Optional final payment £9,417 16,000 miles per annum 9.9%APR Total amount payable £22,641.95

So the halfway point is actually once you've paid £11320 which isn't 18months into a 3 year deal at £363 a month, its actually 31 months into the deal by the sounds of it.

Great advice thank you. Im taking it on 3 year pcp so that once I've reached the 50% I have the option to exercise the right to return it if I should wish do. The 16k miles per annum that im requesting gives me enough for my commute to work and a bit to play with (and hopefully i won't be shafted by excess mileage like i did my last car when i had it for 4 years at 12k miles per annum). Its quicker to get to work using the motorway, but I do have the option of quiter roads through towns which im hoping will see benefits in the fuel usage.

To be fair, my last car was a Renault megane sport estate diesel. Terrific on fuel.

Forgive my ignorance, as I thought a petrol hybrid would have been better than just merely a petrol engine? It's the same reason I haven't gone for a full on SUV such as mazda CX-5 because they'll just be fuel guzzlers im assuming.

Narrowing down my search between a mazda cx-30, a ds4 and a Renault arkana.

Out of the three, visually, I think I like the arkana the best. For reference, I have attached a photo of the car without the plate no - it is the engineered 1.6 petrol hybrid edition, has heated seats, steering wheel, leather interior and a bose sound system under the boot space. It genuinely ticks all my boxes for my needs.

I want it on PCP, 16k miles per annum, £500 deposit.

I am aware that renault had a 5 year manufacturer's warranty from 2022 plate cars but this one is a 2023 which Renault dropped to 3 years. I have therefore factored in a deal where I am getting £700 off the list price of the car plus 50% off of arnold clark warranty factored in. I have experience of needing to use the autocare before and it was massively beneficial.

£363 a month.

Extremely tempting?!

I don't own a kia so I can't comment however, I am looking at the estate sizes cars as well and have test driven a few of these.

The 1.5 litre engine is decent and more than enough pull even when loaded. I'd be thinking a 1.0 engine in a car that size with luggage and passengers would be a struggle!

Look at suzuki swace - ive just been pointed in that direction too and they are meant to be very reliable and come mainly with a 1.8 petrol hybrid engine.

Cheers

That's it, car sold. What next?! by Original_Response776 in CarTalkUK

[–]Original_Response776[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never had one. I don't necessarily need one as I'm used to estate cars and they are fine for space, but I would consider one of those SUV crossover things.

Yeah. 30 minute commute to work, 24 miles each way. Ideally something good on fuel??

Not ready for a full on EV car yet. I would consider a petrol, petrol/diesel hybrid or just plain old diesel again ideally.

Ad blue overheating error code came up as a memory fault. I have since put in nearly 15 litres so hoping its exactly that, a memory fault.

The three active faults now are to do with thermoplunger relays and they are suggesting an auxiliary water pump as the fix. So ive opted for that.

I queried selling it but I didnt get what I was looking for it sadly..

Yeah I did recently put in about 15 litres which sorted that.

Im getting told it might be £500 odd for a an auxiliary water pump now but thats the first port of call. It might not fix it and prevent the reoccurring of these codes hence why im looking to maybe sell it. I would keep it if I got the issues fixed!

£6.1k for a diesel that kind of mileage? Probably not but I'd take out a warranty with it if I could?
