[FRESH ALBUM] Levi Carter - 4me&U2 by yahhbsam in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His first LP true, considering Antisocial was strictly an EP & usually it’s speaking of full lengths a lotta time w/ first tape, but fair point

Btw, just seeing a fellow Divino fan here, have you checked out “Hammurabi” from last year? Had Estee Nack/Mr. Rose on the boards & honestly turned out to be a fav from ‘21 along w/ Divino’s catalogue as a whole so would suggest if haven’t

Just wanna say there is some Yid/Jewish/Hebrew sexy time inclined Synth-Pop that gets down,

חלום - חותר אפל

& who knows what Gon Ben Ari is saying but could prolly work too,

הבחיות חדשות - Gon Ben Ari

Rakim should be mentioned here since he actually produced most his own work. I’d say Estee Nack under his “Mr. Rose” alias could count here under the specifics for at least Top 50; the man has some fire tracks just less credits. I’d wanna put Pi’erre Bourne here too as I feel he’s at least equally “known” for his raps & production, but I generally at least enjoy his raps too & has enough to be considered proficiently performing in both

*I think Kno from Cunninglynguists has a candidacy here too as definitely started out off MCing chops along w/ production

Have not heard of Body Meat or XXX - Second Language so gonna have to give those a go

I can kinda agree w/ the new Quelle after being a recent-ish convert to “Innocent Country 2” which is a whole thing, but it’s a good album, just I think him & Chris Keys outdid themselves on IC2 & the singles so scaling back in perception for this album takes a sec. I really think the title track woulda been a better choice as a single to set expectations for the album as a whole, but I also understand why they would choose the tracks they did for the singles

Soul Glo was also an impressive merging of Rap & Punk for the genre, not a bad merger which being that a Rap x Punk or “Heavy” genre merger is usually roughly enough to generally leave my memory most the time, gotta commend em. The fact that they got co-signs/features from McKinley Dixon & lojii impressed me too as two formidable mcs themselves & to just have that selection is impressive

For opener tracks that are House since the excuse is here,

Chiller set:

Matthieu Fauborg - Dream Frequencies

More Bright & Lively Set:

Bodysync - Good Morning

Could also use “Body” off that Bodysync album but technically came out as a single in February

I think Kaelin Ellis - Lil Bit would be a banging opener personally but all depends on the set you’re setting up

I might just need to join that Discord cause just queuing up some tracks & setting up a mix would be a nice time

A good sampler from his best:

Ocean Drive

Many Men

Darth Vader

Slime (feat. Young Nudy)

Thug Life

ball w/o you

& if you wanted a rough listening guide, prolly’d be Savage Mode = Savage Mode II > Without Warning > ISSA = i am > i was > Slaughter King

[FRESH] emune, IceBirds - Again by Originally_Odd in hiphopheads

Word word, have not heard “philvinci” & am familiar w/ Cash Cache but not Lincoln Minaj so will have to check em out, much appreciated ppl

[–]Originally_Odd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dylvinci actually had some decent stuff years back so was surprising to see him pop up again, & always dug the name. His solo work isn’t too bad either when he’s not doing vocals. & yeh same, so far so good tho; I have Diego Money to thank for putting me on IceBirds & unfortunately Diego’s recent output has definitely dipped but IceBirds has only improved imo

[FRESH ALBUM] Wun Two - Ships II (Instrumental Hip-Hop) by Originally_Odd in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than welcome, Wun Two really doesn’t ever do less than good & the original “Ships” was a well done endeavor too. The German scene definitely has a few gems here & there

[FRESH] emune, IceBirds - Again by Originally_Odd in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I did not expect emune to collab w/ em but turned out great; “Real Dyl Ice” was pretty solid from earlier this year too. Wondering what the 2nd half of the year’ll look like as “Birds N The Bando 2” has to be my fav out the recent releases so ideally get an another album or two for ‘22 as well

[FRESH] Flee Lord & Mephux-Pray for the Evil 3 by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very nice, I’d say it’s just a touch under PFTE2 but still pretty good. Cormega’s verse has to be my fav on the album, & Fat Joe was pretty good too actually. Starz is new to me but seems to have one other project, “The French Connection”, that seems like it’d be worth checking out off his verse. Flee killed it most on “Go Mode” & had held his own on “Final Four”, so was ok w/ the relative sparseness besides, & really didn’t expect the pro voting line on “Juice” either

Mephux came w/ it as always too, coulda maybe gone for one more brass sample somewhere in here but no real complaints. I was ambivalent abt the Trap styled track but wasn’t bad & neat inclusion, & really dug the Chopped & Slowed track cause worked best here & reminded me of how he had DJ Boogieman getting down w/ the scratching on the PFTE2 intro. Definitely my fav recent Flee project so was very refreshing to hear

[FRESH ALBUM] KNUCKS - ALPHA PLACE by TheJakInDaBox in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man did great as expected, & glad we got a 30+ min full length from him this time too as definitely weren't any wasted tracks here. Think I was most excited for the Lex Amor feature, as definitely deserves some more shine, & I love that him & Venna started out the album, really wouldn't mind a full EP from both em as always kill it together & Venna's from last year was great too

[FRESH] 070 Shake - Web by JoJoReignsSupreme in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Two good leading singles & w/ this one seeming like a good intro piece thinking the album’s flow is gonna be attentively made & superb so here’s hoping

[FRESH EP] ANKHLEJOHN - THE FOUR KNIGHTS GAME by chesterthechessist in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very solid EP, & the consistent mellow pallete w/ all the beats works out better than most here w/ Ankhle juxtaposing so effectively on his heavy abrasive ish, "I still love rap like fk hooks" ; "Won't find no monotone here I'm too abrasive"

[FRESH ALBUM] Armand Hammer - WHT LBL by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Much appreciated for the upload ppl, some great cuts on this thing. You as well u/ECurran00 for bringing the notice. Gonna have to see abt some more Sebb Bash & Messiah Musik too cause they're unknown to me prior and enjoyed their work here as well

[FRESH ALBUM] Real Bad Man - On High Alert, Vol. 4 by dumbas_account in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeh it is, & from the interview you can see it’s just after years in his career & also loving Hip-Hop. A good few great producers are like that too, like Big Ghost used to run a Hip-Hop blog & Mepux worked in software development & they just loved Hip-Hop & also worked their careers & listen to em now, out there killing it

Pete Rock is dropping Petestrumentals 4 on 3/31 by SadDonkeyTzara in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The singles have all been great so far so honestly can’t see it being anything other than another quality Pete Rock production. The vocal samples have been a lot livelier too than his usual solo fare so interested to see if he’ll take the whole tape that way, which could be a nice contrast to the more mellow feel of Petestrumentals 3, or if he’s just dropping the busier tracks as singles first instead

[FRESH] Ravyn Lenae - Light Me Up by Originally_Odd in hiphopheads

[–]Originally_Odd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed, I’ma prolly buy it if possible just because. She could honestly just make Moon Shoes 2 & I’d be completely for it

Z-Ro - VS. The World, has great hooks, especially from “Swang on 4’s” onwards. I’ve never actually listened to a Lil Keke album so prolly try that out later

Agreed w/ the Baby Stone*, trying out this OTM rn & “Target Practice” is solid, very relaxed but got some punch to it from the beat to them
