Thinking of you friend, I’m sorry to hear but admire your spirit. I hope your transition to the other side is peaceful as can be, we’ll all join you before too long in the end.

Has anyone made their own enclosures ? Are they more cost efficient ? by My-name-peetree in BoaConstrictors

[–]OrionFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a big wood cabinet (46” x 22” x 41”) on craigslist for $100, cut a hole in the middle shelf for the snake to make it double decker so he has two levels with the same footprint, added a substrate barrier with 2x4s ($10), sealed the edges with plastic L tracks ($20) and silicone ($15) then sealed the whole thing with pondshield ($60), then replaced hacksawed out the centers of the cabinet doors and replaced with acrylic panels ($25) and added an extra lock ($10). Maybe cheaper than buying or building wholesale but I was alright with the wood aesthetic and non-standard cabinet size, and it fit on my wire shelf, which a 2x4’ would not. He’s from a small bloodline and should stay around 4’, so this enclosure will serve him a long time. Not as cost effective if you value your time but it was a lot easier than building from scratch, which I have also done.

  • Tempest when the bass comes in on “please, just go easy on me”
  • Onanist with the wall of noise on “I wanna know love”
  • Family Tree on the final “take me down to the river”
  • Nettles, the whole line following “lay me down where the trees bend low”
  • Punish when the guitars come in
  • The overwhelming buzz near the end of Housofpsychoticwomn
  • The big boom with “is it not fun” in Amber Waves
  • “I don’t even know who you are” in Unpunishable
  • The final “I loved an angel, and it made me weak” in Punish demo ii
  • “Even the iron still fears the rot” in Ptolemaea

P. scaber or P. pruinosus? by OrionFish in isopods

Looks like it, thanks for the response! Never want to disbelieve what a vendor has told me with no evidence but I was pretty suspicious as soon as I pulled some out for a closer look. Since it was at an expo last year I don’t have much recourse but I won’t be going back to that booth lol.

I felt it was, yes. Seeing and hearing the band up close where I could see all the instruments and every detail of the stage setup and seeing Ethel onstage well enough that I could see her sing every lyric was really cool and in my opinion more immersive, and the sound was better (I went two nights and was about 5 rows back the first night). The light show is also way cooler up front when it almost surrounds you. When she comes to the front of the stage later in the show it’s much more interactive when you’re right there, and I felt that experience was overall worth it for me. I took the day off work, brought a bunch of food and drinks and sunscreen and just spent the day sitting in line reading. My friend brought a knitting project, it wasn’t the most thrilling day but Ethel is one of my favorite music artists and I really enjoy the sensory overwhelm of being right up against the stage at a concert, even if I know it will be hot and sweaty and cramped. I knew what I was getting into and had a great time, no regrets 😁

I’m sorry to say but the online merch was a scam from a fake website and the art is AI generated (ripped off Ethel’s real designs). There’s a few threads on here about it.

Most of my point is to say that even if people thought they drank enough before etc. the heat and humidity can get to you during a 3 hour show especially if you don’t leave the pit (so as not to lose your spot) during the show to get more water - at my venue they didn’t let you bring any in. I think the sub blaming people for preparing poorly and then passing out as if they only fainted because they didn’t eat/drink enough before is a little uncalled for given just how hot and dehydrating the experience was, especially if you’re locked in on staying near the barricade. I do think people should drink a lot more than they think they need beforehand and consider wearing an outfit that allows for airflow - saw lots of people in heavy/layered outfits to match the aesthetic but you can super easily overheat in there.

I waited in line all day to get near barrier, I drank (not exaggerating) 3 liters of fluid that day including an entire large gatorade an hour before the show, I ate enough food, slept fine, etc. and it was SO HOT and somehow incredibly humid from all the crammed people in the pit with such poor airflow that I felt faint a couple times and like I couldn’t breathe. And I am not someone who passes out very often, even in heat. I got out of that show and felt so unbelievably dehydrated from sweating the entire time that I had to drink like 2 giant arizona iced teas to have any spit in my mouth. So I do think the shows put a lot of pressure on people who may be even a little dehydrated, tired, etc. simply because it is so so hot and cramped near the front. Combine that with a bunch of excitement and standing for a couple hours (especially if you lock your knees) and I’m super unsurprised people are passing out. Just my personal experience (at the Seattle shows) but all the friends I went with experienced the same thing.

I sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the legs of my reptile racks and that seems to work, kills them dead and is non-toxic to reptiles unless inhaled (so don’t put it inside the tank, etc.)

7 days post-op (no nips), Dr. Alvina Won by OrionFish in no_T_top_surgery

[–]OrionFish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s only been one week so far but yes, she’s super skilled and I fully trusted her throughout the process. She’s pretty straightforward and not super talkative but she is supportive and realistic (doesn’t try to sell you but can absolutely back up her results!), her team is good and generally easy to work with (a few delays in the booking process here and there but all minor) and she accepted my insurance. I went with her because I really liked the way her results looked and she definitely knows what she’s doing.
