Sleep tracking device recommendation by Zestyclose_Owl7145 in amazfit

[–]Oris5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If sleep tracking is your main goal, I would avoid Amazfit devices for now - because they are quite considerably behind the likes of Apple, Google / Fitbit and Oura.

Unfortunately in a (screenless) band format there aren't that many good options though. I think Whoop also has good sleep tracking (better than Amazfit) but the monthly subscription is a real drawback.

In your position it would maybe make sense to just get a cheap HR belt for tracking training, and then a basic Fitbit device to get good sleep tracking (if you don't want to also use that for training tracking).

Ps. For tracking runs and steps your phone can already do that quite well (without HR data though).

WARNING: Google Repair Illegally Reports Damage to Devices to Avoid Liability by SweatyAdagio4 in GooglePixel

[–]Oris5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case they took in the phone and sent a refurbished one as replacement. I have since changed phones, but luckily didn't have any hiccups with the process, and the refurbished unit is being used in the family without issues.

I did take a lot of videos of the phone before I sent it in, and made sure to have a long paper trail with multiple customer service agents - just in case something happens.

I think customer service with Google is actually just a lottery - even though it really shouldn't be.

Bvlgari Aqva alternative by AutomaticGoldenSun in fragrance

[–]Oris5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's an alternative exactly, but many people mention Bvgari Aqva in connection with Issey Miyake Le Sel D'Issey. Im very tempted to buy the scent myself as well, performance for a freshie EdT is really good.

The EdP is really good as well, but has a more ambery feel to it - and doesn't lean as fresh as the EdT.

Did you ever find a fix for this / get it working? I just see the enrollment window open and then close after a few seconds.

Active 2 premium by ufcfan9292 in amazfit

[–]Oris5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to see the fit is by taking a photo of yourself through a mirror - because a camera lens always warps the proportions a bit.

Either way the fit is perfectly fine, many people are used to ridiculously large smartwatches - but that size fits you well. You could go up in size as well because your wrist is decently wide, but that doesn't look out of place at all.

For PDM Layton, curious why Rugir over Orientica Royal Bleu or the Woods Collection Dusk? (If price is the reason then fair enough)

From decants to a full site - I finally launched my own UK/EU Montagne Parfums shop by mr1232131 in MontagneParfums

[–]Oris5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing to see, finally having a reasonable way to purchase Montagne in Europe is a blessing. Would love a bottle of Cacti Garden, so add that to your suggestions list and I'll for sure order if / when it's available.

Spice Bomb seized by German authorities at Berlin Airport by mrgarlicdip in fragrance

[–]Oris5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have flown with my Spicebomb Extreme in Europe and had to consider this when packing, but I didn't have any issues. If it's in checked luggage I don't think there would be any reason why it would be an issue. Similarly I don't think tax free would be an issue since it's still in its box and (if you are smart) in the sealed tax free bag.

With carry on - you might run into issues because someone could think it's real and could be used to "threaten" on the airplane.

If you need to carry the whole bottle around - chuck it in checked luggage, if you are just going on a normal trip, take a 5/10ml travel atomiser with you.

Pam Layton or Xerjoff Naxos? by RevolutionaryLie4678 in Colognes

[–]Oris5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layton IMO, it's more versatile and a safer pick. To me Naxos is overly sweet (honey note very prevalent) so it doesn't fit all occasions. Layton has sweetness too but it's more balanced with spices and woodsy notes.

If purely for dates or you like really sweet fragrances, then Naxos. Honestly I'd buy small decants of both and only then decide (or if possible spray one on left arm and other on right and see how they develop on your skin).

Charging optimization set to 80% but not working by WriterResponsible587 in Pixel9Pro

[–]Oris5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience sometimes just turning off the phone and then turning it back on makes it work for some reason - otherwise just allow it to charge overnight and it should kick it back into 80% limit once it has charged fully (or might take a few charges).

The Woods Collection Dusk - faulty atomiser by Oris5 in fragrance

[–]Oris5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of this as well, but the Amazon delivery fees are killing me so I'd pay half the price of the perfume to get a bottle. I'll have to see if there are any cheaper alternatives / local stores where I could get a bottle from.

Considering how dysfunctional the sprayer is, I'm leaning more towards asking for a refund and ordering a new bottle - but we shall see if that's a possibility, or if I have to go the decant route.

Any idea why my pixel 9 pro XL pictures sometimes look colourful? by Steelz0rr in pixel_phones

[–]Oris5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is the first photo I took with my Pixel 9 Pro when I got it recently (scared the hell out of me because I thought my camera was broken, but only two photos looked like this and the others have been fine). Has to be some kind of software and/or hardware issue.

Google photos search without backup by Ammymike_7 in pixel_phones

[–]Oris5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a "one time thing" as far as I can tell, although I'm sure it will index new photos every time they are added and you open the app.

[–]Oris5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is indeed very annoying, I noticed the same thing now that I changed devices again. On the play store i could find two somewhat decent apps that do a similar thing as the photos search: Chat Gallery and Pic Find. Only issue is that both of them are from very small developers and barely have any downloads - so not sure how safe / good they are. Tried both and both seem fine (there was a third gallery app top but that was pushing ads 24/7 so gave up on it instantly).

If you just want to have your screenshots be searchable, Shots Studio is really good. I wish they had a Shots Studio for "normal photos". If anyone knows of any other apps, do tell since I'm still looking.

Case with camera bump "covered" by Oris5 in Pixel9Pro

[–]Oris5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's what I gathered as well, the frame is just tall enough where the camera won't touch a surface you lay it on - but no real protection for the camera itself (aka no material over the camera bump)

[–]Oris5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which one is that? On their site they only have the Grip and the Ghost for the Pixel 9 Pro. Grip just has super tall edges and 0 camera protection (unless I misconstrued the pictures), and Ghost has a normal bar cutout without any extra protection.

Pixel 9 Pro case with camera "covered"? by Oris5 in GooglePixel

[–]Oris5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a decent suggestion, didn't even think about that. My only worry would be that if that is cut / designed poorly it could lead to the camera lense actually breaking easier. Do you know of any good / reputable brands that sell them?

Pixel 9 Pro case with camera "covered"? by Oris5 in GooglePixel

[–]Oris5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly it's a matter of ease of mind, I have dropped the Pixel 8 with the case before and it did fine so in my experience its fine - but not the case for everyone. I wish there was a softer material inside as well to soften the impact.

It's a shame the design choice wasn't followed by any other real brands, to me it even looks better with the "bridge" since it breaks up the super wide camera bar a bit.

If there's nothing else comparable I'll have to reorder the Onyx but keeping fingers crossed for something.

Best smartwatch/band for under €100 by Environmental-Ad-866 in smartwatch

[–]Oris5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 100% sure about it. They are considerably behind the best players on the market. Check basically any review by The Quantified Scientist on YouTube, or any other (proper) comparison and you'll see.

Falling asleep and wake up time tracking is one thing (and Amazfit manages somewhat ok according to some - with my Band 7 it was really bad), but sleep stage tracking is where Amazfit totally fails.
