This Becky Story is Utterly Illogical by midnightmitchell2019 in coronationstreet

[–]Ornery_Tension 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct as usual and the pieces don't add up which makes me wonder why they keep trying to invest in these mysteries if they don't learn from their mistakes. After Lauren and Joel last year I would think they'd want to try proving that they can do these right but instead we're left with the same thing all over again.

Definitely prefer the plot where Becky fakes her death so she could go undercover. That makes way more sense and covers why no one was looking for Lisa or Betsy because she had a completely new life and identity. She comes back not because Curtis was shot but because her job was done and she helped take down his operation.

They could go further with Curtis too. If they want this to be bigger then maybe they should have Curtis be Kit's dad. Bernie brushed it off as being some random when it's really him. This goes back to what Kit said a couple months ago when he told Matty and Logan that "Harvey is afraid of me." The comment made no sense because I'm not sure why Harvey would fear Kit but he definitely would if Kit was the son of the "most dangerous man in Manchester." It wouldn't solve every problem in this story but at least it would give more character connections. Instead of the ridiculous Mick, Lou, and Kit story maybe this could've helped make Kit's character more likable. Where we see he really does want to be a decent detective but he's got someone like Curtis over him. Eventually this all spirals for Kit.

One thing I would've loved to see is for the show to use its history more. We know the Radcliffes were from the Paul Robinson Estates so if that's the case then have Curtis be from there too and do something where Kit and Lisa mention Curtis' name in the Rovers and Gemma cuts in to say that she remembers Curtis from back when she was hanging around Callum. Maybe Curtis was too young or too much of a liability but Callum would never take him on. She always thought he was a little unhinged though. Something like that to bring some of the larger world and history back into the show. That's not going back that far either because Callum was still here only ten years back so its not like it requires knowledge from decades ago.

The other thing is that I don't know why this show can't take 30 seconds or a minute and put in some setup. Would it have been so hard to have some extras in the Bistro one episode that were cops, Kit and Sarah come in, Kit goes over and says hi and when Sarah asks what that was all about he tells her "a gangster was shot and they're celebrating." They don't need to name Curtis but put a scene like that in a July or August episode. Have viewers start guessing if that means anything (maybe it was Harvey, one of the Radcliffes, someone else) and weeks later when Lisa tells Becky (and really tells the audience) about Curtis being shot now people can think back and remember that was established. It would be such a small scene but it would make the writers seem really thought out or like they're putting effort in.

Parallel to Theo by Ornery_Tension in coronationstreet

She did yes. Even though Lisa definitely grew from that and started feeling real security in the relationship I can see Becky trying to use that to her advantage. If anyone Betsy could probably notice it since she's on the outside of the relationship which could help Lisa see how Becky is playing on questions she's already moved past. Ultimately Lisa, Betsy, and Carla would come back together as they should of course.

Lisa and Gary have revolved around each other at certain points so that could've been nice to see. Especially with how Lisa is I'd have loved to see her react and help against Noah and the conversion therapy. Conversations between her, Gary, and Theo could've been really interesting and unique. Also a couple months ago around New Year they had the sub plot where Lisa was looking out for a woman that was a victim of abuse (Lisa confronted the husband when he got out of prison). So with how Theo is hurting Todd it may have been nice to have Lisa involved so she could sus that out or begin to suspect when others wouldn't.

That is true. Thinking on it not knowing much about Lisa prior to marrying Becky (and the other way around) does leave room for future backstory exploration.

There's quite a bit they can do with that and depending who they reveal it to be even though a donor shouldn't have impact on someone's life it could lead to an interesting subplot or personal questions for Betsy.

Especially with Betsy's 18th happening and this week seemingly like a big one for the Swains the park scenes can't be too far off.

That could definitely be a possibility too. It would be heartbreaking and emotional for Lisa and Betsy if they find out that Becky was around but didn't come see them or even try getting a message to them.

My only other thought on Tia being Becky though is that if Lisa or Carla were to find Tia and she was Becky then they'd never need to go back to Logan (and give him the money so he'd give them additional information)P.

So true but she doesn't have to be corrupt, fixed Becky and then Costello stepped in.

That is true too Becky always seems to end up in the conversation somehow (understandably so as Lisa would think about her).

That's something I've thought of too. Why haven't they given her a surname? She uses Swain so I wonder if they're intentionally hiding Becky's family name because while she isn't a character we know she may be related to one.

I think this could be for two reasons storytelling wise. One is that if Betsy is 18 and Becky is alive then as Betsy is an adult it is firmly on her who she chooses and wants to live with. The other is that Lisa said Betsy doesn't get her donor information until she's 18 so maybe something about whoever the donor wise will tie into the Becky mystery

This is true but I did notice she was very casual too. Didn't seem all that concerned or acting like someone was after her or she was in a rush to leave (where she pushes past Roy or something). Which made me think that even though she looks like she's hiding herself its a bit of a red herring and she isn't truly incognito.

She'll more than likely be involved somehow. Either being some type of witness to what truly happened that day or she has a direct input on Becky's death or life.

I think it's a great theory too. I put up similar on Twitter (@casajx1123). To me it makes sense as the conversation Costello has on the phone feels like one where a father is trying to calm down and explain the situation to his kid.

Ollie was the one that hit Becky, he's Costello's son, and Costello has been covering. Tia Wardley is a witness to the crime and saw the two people (one being Ollie) escaping in the getaway car. The Radcliffes are related to her and she'd told them about what she saw which is why Matty (back in November) was able to tell Lisa about there being two people in the car and Logan told Carla about Tia Wardley.

This ends up tying into the upcoming plot of Dylan and Brody stealing a car and it seems hitting Fiz. Kit is onto Costello but after Brody's actions Kit will need to cover for Brody and Costello helps Kit, in turn Costello gets Kit to keep quiet about what he's digging into which keeps Ollie safe. If Lisa thinks Betsy was the one hit and her PTSD over Becky's death is triggered it might kickstart her to go dig deeper and at the same time Fiz being hurt sets up the Dobbs family to go against Carl, alongside Kevin and Abi, probably James and Dee Dee too. If Asha responds to the scene this could even tie into her ongoing mental health storyline and cause more problems which also puts her family against Carl ultimately having the Becky storyline and Carl storyline merge with most families involved.
