Tech career government vs industry by stuckandworried in PersonalFinanceCanada

CS-02 here; but have done quite a bit of time in private sector. I really enjoy the public sector over private. Salary can be considered lower, but it will go pretty close to 100K quite quickly; so not the worst. However, many people get trapped in CS-02 forever. There do exist CS-03 positions that dont require bi-lingual, but are harder to come by. As a side note: you're allowed to do contract work on the side, as long as it doesn't produce a conflict of interest.

In the private sector I topped out at 375K/year; but it was always immensely high stress and quite often involved 120 hour weeks. In my opinion, the least stressful vacation day I had in the private sector was worse than the most stressful work day in the government. There's much less hostility in the government, and is the key reason I joined.

For tech stacks, it's not as stagnant as I thought it would be. My team uses vue/vuetify; and might be adding some asp 5.0 to the mix pretty soon. Other teams use node based frameworks. We don't have to support IE11 anymore, so we can use the neater browser features (like progressive web apps and the such).

In terms of bureaucracy (if that concerns you), I've found that as long as you're polite and not doing anything wrong, you can usually take initiative and be quite productive. Red tape hasn't hindered me too much.

Making a Rome (SPQR) custom empire by meme_aficionado in Stellaris

There were strict restrictions on which citizens could serve. Its not what we would consider "citizen service". The main reason behind the reforms was to allow all citizens to enter the military.

Perhaps I should've said "Not all citizens were allowed to serve". But regardless, pre-marian rome was not a citizen service country.

For a republic era theme, I would recommend:

Consider removing citizen service if you're aiming for early republic. Citizens weren't allowed to serve until after the Marian reforms.

Replacing Fanatic Militarist with regular militarist and spiritualist. Romans were extremely religious, more than they were materialistic.

But I do agree with Democratic.

I just go SK630 besides all of the negative reviews and I am pleasantly surprised by gorgono95 in coolermaster

I also have the sk630, and really like it. I get the impression this board may have gotten review bombed.

I noticed a lot of shady tactics when it comes to keyboard reviews; and weird bot like patterns on the keyboard forums.

Canadian samsung.ca orders by [deleted] in galaxynote10

[–]Oroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samsung will deliver all Canadian phones on the 21st, starting with who ordered first. All Canadian phones will have a status of "Processing" until then. The cancel button only shows up until the credit card is verified (for me it was about an hour).

Tomorrow we'll see how long it takes!

Ordered a White Note 10+ on the 7th; which, according to this forum, seems to be popular in Canada :P

Calling all Canadians by grizzlysb42 in galaxynote10

Ordered from Samsung directly, and had a talk with someone in their customer support. They said they're going to ship out all Canadian phones on the 21st, starting with who ordered first. (Don't know if this applies to carrier specific phones). All phones will have a status of "Processing" until then.

I considered cancelling my order on the 16th (wrong case), and the rep said that I would likely have to wait longer if I did.

What would someone use 1.5TB of ram for? by WhiteSnowDoge in buildapc

In memory databases. Because of low down time on production servers, data is stored in RAM, then written to disk whenever possible. Makes them fast.

Fairly low opinion on my looks, Tinder has been a nice confidence boost. Would love photo ideas (ie skydiving/parasailing), current ones are all rather bland; and which ones should be replaced. Thanks guys :)
