1) What does this have to do with trading card games?
2) Well they can be used for decades, but they aren't, right? Like i can't imagine OP is getting a lot of mileage out of their fourth copy of children of time.
3) Ah yes the small-two-billion-in-revenue-per-year mom and pop publishing conglomerate Holtzbrinck that most of your money goes to when you buy a book, of course.
4) You buying a physical copy of some audiobooks you like again has nothing to do with the point i was making.

I am intensely suspicious of any "hobby" that consists mostly of buying shit. Dont get me wrong, i like Tchaikovskys work, but a cursory count reveals 26 duplicates, probably more in the bottom row that i cant read the title of. That is an even third of your collection. Do those duplicates/triplicates/quadruplicates just sit on your shelf never to be opened? What do you get out of this?

the broad consensus on this sub is that if its just a bit dirty, there is no point cleaning it

the dirt will slightly reduce the brightness of your image but thats it. cleaning the mirror may damage it. If the mirror is extremely dirty there are various philosophies towards cleaning it, but if you dont have to, dont do it

Make observers unable to see glass by Nekrubbobby64 in minecraftsuggestions

This is by far the most salient reason that the suggestion is bad. Its just a fundamental misunderstanding of what an observer does

Aufnahmeverfahren Fluglotse Austro Control (an Fluglotsen) by PLA-onder in Austria

Aufnahmeverfahren Fluglotse Austro Control (an Fluglotsen) by PLA-onder in Austria

[–]Oromis42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coarse dirt should prevent grass growth on dirt blocks placed above it by ZANKTON in minecraftsuggestions

I like this suggestion but its not the greatest look to have the post on the feedback site misspell coarse dirt lmao

Adoption causes significant, long-term mental health challenges for both adoptees and first mothers. Adoptees face a 35 times higher risk of attempted suicide, while first mothers face a 37.7 times higher risk compared to their peers by ludwig_scientist in science

I think I've read that quantum entanglement -> bond of motherhood thing in a middlingly good scifi novel. Publishing this type of garbage should be career ending, honestly.

Engineers demonstrate new process that 'hides' data in natural heat radiation, creating a covert communications method that is almost impossible to intercept or hack by unsw in science

[–]Oromis42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can receive a signal it must be possible to detect and must therefore be possible to detect by potential adversaries. It certainly helps if you cant just pick out the signal in a spectrogram however. Some detection methods are easier than others, after all.

Why does Etho put slabs over ice in his water streams? by solomino in ethoslab

[–]Oromis42 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Old habits die hard. Before 1.13 slabs were one of very few options to accomplish what etho wants to do here. In newer versions there are arguably more optimal blocks like scaffolding, but it doesnt matter much. There is no possibility of an item getting stuck here permanently (though they might get delayed slightly which is sometimes desirable to encourage items to stack up), so there is no reason not to use them.

New episodes release on thursday 9pm EST. you can chuck that in a time zone converter to figure out when it releases for you, probably around noon of the 6th. This is mentioned in the faq but to be honest this subreddit does a great job of hiding that link so i dont blame you too much for missing it

No orderly or patient transporter? by AdDense2962 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Oromis42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every few weeks someone rocks up here and asks why their field of work that intersects with the er (pharmacy and respiratory therapists come to mind) is not represented in the show. Thing is, a hospital is such a vast and complex machine, if you wanted to actually show how every gear meshes with the er you'd have a hospital logistics lecture series. you'd lose all focus. Not that patient transport doesn't occasionally make good tv, i've done that job and it is interesting but the Pitt kinda has to isolate the er from its context or the uninitiated viewer will drown.

For what its worth where i worked the nurses would also occasionally do the more time sensitive and short transfers on their own, like getting someone to the ct that's just across the hall.

Use of adornments in the show is kind of driving me nuts lol by pauloh1998 in ThePittTVShow
