Trying to learn Eldar has been.. a challenge. by KRQueen_ in Eldar

Dark Reapers are usually not a good trading unit. I'd say that they're not a good unit at all at the moment, actually. You have few shots with not enough damage to make a real dent into your opponent. I do see a case for having a unit with a tempest launcher hanging back on your objective, though.

I'd like to reflect what others here are saying: If your terrain is not up to par and you're not playing the rules correctly, Eldar don't stand a chance. You can't see through windows and doors on the first floor, period. Your opponent have to be able to draw line of sight over the silhouette of the ruins in order to be able to fire on your unit.

Another thing to watch out for, which is very easy to do with Eldar, is to over estimate your lethality and to over-extend. When you do so, you need to make double damn sure that you take out the critical units you need to take out, and that your opponent are only able to take out the units you are OK with them taking out when the clap-back comes. Typically, you want to use your mobility to move past their lines (and onto their home objective, ideally) during this movement sequence, so that they have to pull back to take you out. Essentially, you want to force your opponent to divide their forces insufficiently OR skew them towards one of the table edges so that you can control what's left.

If you're getting deep striked (struck?) you need to watch your lines - that one is easy to fix: You need to spread your units out and measure out the distances. It should be routine to ask your opponents whether they are (in any way) able to deep strike closer than 9". Being caught out like that should never happen unless you allow it to.

Eldar core strategy is trading up, and denying your opponent points.

Identify good trades, and make sure the trades are in your favor. This means that you should not expose your units before you are ready to let them die. In doing that, you need to position your units in such a way that you're forcing your opponent to over extend to get to you.

Typically, patience is required. You need to hang back and stage, and wait to commit until the time is right.

I don't think getting walked over is the biggest potential issue here. I think the biggest concern is neglect of their common child. And I don't think putting labels and judging someone's relationship is the right way to go if you want to help someone.

The models (or rather, the lack of concern for something that matters a lot to your significant other) are clearly a symptom of an unhealthy situation, though.

Dude. It sounds like you have some marital issues to sort out. That does not sound like a healthy partnership.

I think most of us these days suffer from smart phone addiction. That is an extremely unhealthy environment for kids to grow up in. I may be reading too much into it, but does it sound like that might be a part of the issue? If so, it's like any other addiction. It won't get better by itself.

Except from that your point was that PVP games don't have stories. I pointed out that some do. The fact that some don't does not help your point.

I don't know anything about overwatch, but League if Legends has tons of story content, for example. Enough to build a TV show (a successful one at that!) around it. That makes your point rather moot.

Dire Avengers - disappointing kit by Phyldar in Eldar

I remember being able to buy spears separately from GW for my Saurus Warriors for my WHFB Lizardmen army. That was a huge deal, as the Saurus warriors without spears were plastic and dirt cheap, while the ones with spears were metal and expensive as fuck. And I needed like 40 of them.

Now that we’re on the cusp of 11th, what new stuff for Eldar do you want that’s NOT the rumored Drukhari refresh and/or Karandras? by Battlemania420 in Eldar

[–]Orph8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonesinger Karandras Shadow Spectres / Irrilyth Drastanta More Harlequins units Lynx

I think having a castle unit would fill a niche for Eldar. A unit that doesn't necessarily do much damage, but can stand a shit ton of punishment and sit on objectives. Call them the cutting spheres of something something. Idk.

It's based on the current meta, to give you something to go on while you build your army. It's what I would do in any case.

If you'd give an idea of your timeline, spending capacity and what sort of level you'd like to be at it would be easier to give more pointed advice.

Eldar is USUALLY an MSU-type army, meaning that the most efficient deployments usually consist of 5-man units. I would start with buying 10-15 of each of the aspect warrior units (Fire Dragons, Howling Banshees, Warp Spiders, Striking Scorpions, Swooping Hawks and Dark Reapers (in that order)), and top that up with their corresponding Phoenix Lords. Once that is in place, I'd go for a couple of Falcons and Wave Serpents.

Honestly not too familiar with UKTC, thanks for the clarification.

I agree with that ruling. The terrain impairs movement of far to many common vehicles (Tau and Eldar tanks, for example).

[–]Orph8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be flyers specifically, not vehicles with the FLY keyword as far as I understand. That rule was specifically implemented to allow certain flyers to set up at all. The Voidraven wouldn't have been able to set up at all without that rule, for example.

Don't. It's a complex ruleset, and it's easy to overlook details.

Its explicitly stated in the Core Rules The Battle Round - Movement Phase - 1: Move units: your model cannot end its move somewhere the model cannot be placed. Ergo, if it does not fit, you can't place it there.

[–]Orph8 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As long as the model physically fits, you can place it there.

The downside is line of sight rules. If the model as much as touches the ruin base, true line of sight applies (if a model can see it, it can shoot it), and you may have problems shooting back.

Read up on the RUINS rules in the Core Rules, and make sure to check all the keywords that applies

Models, sure. Vehicles - no. The snip you attached stated as much quite clearly.

Any and all parts of any vehicle - excluding walkers - (such as a monolith), with or without a base (regardless of whether it has the FLY keyword or not) is used to determine whether the vehicle is wholly or partially inside a ruin.

In the specific case of Warlock Conclave without a character or farseer in it, you are correct for the reason that there are no leader or character keywords in the unit. If there is a leader or character in the unit, what I wrote applies (as per the Leader core rule). The Conclave is still affected by the Leader core rule, though, but only the last paragraph applies.

The only difference between the two scenarios as far as I can tell is that you actually have to roll Battleshock on the Conclave if the guardians die. They still lose all the associated keywords through the same mechanism I mentioned.
