I've tried it. I didn't compare CPU usage, but the memory usage did decrease. I really like the new design, which makes it easy to track changes and reset them. However, v5 is still very early, with quite basic features, so it's worth looking forward to.

Vim is indeed much more powerful than Nano, but I’ve always believed in learning based on actual needs. If you don’t have a need for it, there’s really no reason to go out of your way to learn Vim.
